Ironing

Ironing!
It isn't my favourite pastime but I tend to nip backwards and forwards between the ironing and doing other things and whilst I was in the other room just now ironing a shirt a thought occurred to me.

I don't know very many people who actually enjoy ironing although I did know a lovely lady once who positively loved it. She even volunteered to do mine! She passed away a few years ago and was probably an endangered species at the time.

What I was wondering was if anyone else uses a sleeve board these days? My mother always used to use one. She also used to iron towels which I don't see the point of because they are much softer and fluffier if you don't. I wonder if any of us have any funny little ironing habits or do you just like to get it over with and forgotten about as quickly as possible?

I'd best get back to those shirts................

Re: Ironing

I've never got on very well with irons. They have a tendancy to burn me, and I have a bad habit of dropping them.:)

ShortStuff 19-10-2004 19:26

Re: Ironing

Sorry but I'm not gonna offer to do your ironing aswell as my own - I think the lady who loved ironing is a myth - you've more chance of seeing the Loch Ness Monster!

Sara 19-10-2004 19:33

Re: Ironing

Pass on the sleeve board. As for towels, that is to scary to contemplate. If you can't see it, it doesn't get ironed, that is my rule anyway. I usually try and do the ironing after cooking a meal. Then whoever else is in the house has to wash up, i can't do both.

Re: Ironing

I am a scruff and never bother to iron. If people came out and did the same then you would have a better life! It's a complete waste of time. Bet you would rather be doing something else.

Yep. But I'm only a semi scruff. I only iron the things which need it, such as shirts.

I agree wayneyboy, When I moved to Accy, I gave my iron and board to my fiance:D so unfortunately, the ironing is down to her:p Hey, Willow, have you seen my blue shirt.....?

Re: Ironing

I havn't done any ironing for years.
I hate it.
Straight out the dryer, while still warm.
A quick smooth down with the hand.
Hang up.
Hey presto.
No ironing required.

Re: Ironing

Can't stand ironing and only tend to do things that I can't get away with not doing, uniforms etc. When I was working on the community in winter and wore a cardigan over my uniform I would only iron my collar and the front part of the uniform not covered by the cardi.:D An ex colleague of mine used to iron everything, towels, undies, duvet etc. I can honestly say that ironing those things is a total waste of time, maybe I just have very low standards???

WillowTheWhisp 21-10-2004 13:10

Re: Ironing

 undies??? That's worse than ironing towels!

Nope, I don't do them either, nor duvet covers, nor fitted sheets (why do you think I have fitted sheets, they "iron" themselves on the bed.)

I don't mind the ironing. I just put it in a big bag and take it round the corner to the nice lady at the dry cleaners, and she does the ironing. Seems a good arrangement to me.....

lettie 29-10-2004 16:46

Re: Ironing

That seems like a brilliant arrangement Pendy. I am currently wondering what to iron for the meet up tomorrow and as usual will leave it until the last minute. I wonder if Sparky likes ironing..... Now there's a thought. :)
