Re: twenty first century britain
Why start a new thread for this? You usually put this kind of stuff into the tories thread, don't you?
|
Re: twenty first century britain
this deserves a thread on its own and a local council thing with planning permission etc

Re: twenty first century britain
This has been happening in London for a number of years.
Most of the shed dwellers are migrants from eastern Europe. The problem arose when Labour agreed to an open borders policy. Subsequently three million people migrated into Britain, in the thirteen years Labour were in power. No figure is known for those who entered the country illegally, under the same time scale. More than three million migrants under Labour - Telegraph These aren't Britons, who've lost their homes. They are economic migrants, who decided to relocate to one of the most expensive cities in the world, and who've decided life at the bottom of someone's garden, is preferable to living in eastern Europe. London's streets might not be paved with gold. But with our generous welfare system, it is seen by some as the Land of Milk and Honey. We make choices. They have. |

Should we have someone from the council nip round with the keys to council houses for them? Turf them all out of their sheds onto the streets? Or perhaps we could get the Borders Agency to do a bit of overtime and round them all up for deportation? What is your solution ? |
Re: twenty first century britain
I'd have love a shed in leafy Hampstead, when I first moved to London.
I was forced to live in Streatham. Try getting a cab to take you south of the river, late on. That was real degradation. |

Leave your bothy. (Basically a Scottish shed, for those not in the know.) Travel a little. When I lived in Glasgow, 2001-2004, at which time I believe we had a Labour government, there were tons of people living under the bridges over the Clyde. They'd have loved a nice warm shed, situated in the balmy metropolis, to live in. They only had smack, and the warmth of their own wee-wee, to keep them snug. |

Re: twenty first century britain
Now we know where hundreds of illegal immigrants are is it beyond the wit of the Metropolitan Police and Border Agency to round them up and send them home- it looks like they might be better off there.
Interesting that they said they were being ripped off and exploited by people from their own country-any comment, cmon? |

Though it was in the glitzy mansion of a millionaire friend of my parents. Ossy lad done good, on the back of filth. But still, Streatham! Cynthia Payne popping round to borrow the hose pipe...for God knows what. Never knowing if you'd wake up to find Lord Montague of Beaulieu chatting to Alan Bates, perched on the end of your bed...again. Not knowing if that Paul Grady might be loitering in the kitchen, with Michael Cashman and Ian McKellen. Six years I suffered. I couldn't wait until I moved out. To Tooting. :D |
Re: twenty first century britain
People save up round here, and hope they live long enough, to live in a shed, down the Ribble Valley.
Or as they call them, retirement village chalets. |

The thing is I don't know C'mon from Adam, but I'm pretty sure I'd recognise him if I met him in the street, he'd be the one with a very bad limp, he's shot himself in the foot so many times. I'm sure he never really thinks anything out before falling over himself to post on here:rolleyes:

Re: twenty first century britain
You may as well read this here before you read it in the national press or see it on the BBC.
Given the scale of London's problem - an estimated 450,000 kipping in sheds, under railway arches, in garages, etc, in the capital - Mayor Boris has agreed with a number of northern local authorities to share the burden. In return for 72 tickets for the Olympic 100 metres men's final (for councillors and partners), HBC will be taking 3,529 individuals to be dispersed throughout the borough. Many of these will be placed in allotment sheds (which goes towards explaining the rise in rents). All tenants will be expected to fully cooperate with the council and ensure their sub-tenants are well looked after with full consideration for their ethnic, cultural and religious needs. Most sheds will therefore have to be repositioned so that they point towards Mecca and be fully carpeted throughout (Axminster preferred). Naturally, no pigs will be allowed. The formal announcement will be made this Friday, after HBC council prayers. |
