That is a monumental lump of text. If I really wanted someone to read what I had written, or cut and pasted for that matter. I would break it into readable paragraphs.
I cannot possibly comment on the content of the above post as I have only read the title......and seeing the great slavverin lump of text....makes me want to agree that it does affect some internet users....perhaps, not all. |

Now, now, Kestrel ;) - if you were a real conspiracy theorist you would realise that the controlling elite wish to deter the population from using the internet, and that is why such blurb is issued by the (controlled) media.:D
It is mind altering - it publicises their devious shenanigans so people become aware of their greed and corruption - no wonder 'they' try to deter you from using it. |

I do....I have always said that children diagnosed as such, were just naughty and not given enough boundaries, or the boundaries were not maintained (if they were ever set)....but so many people disagreed with me, that I started to keep these thoughts to myself. at present they can't police my thoughts(unless MargaretR has some evidence that they can....ooh scary).
And you are right about Ma being indomitable too! |

OK the internet does give us instant access to data and information but does it change the way we think in a positive way? I am not sure it does - because people are still in their closed little worlds. I would ask you now be honest - how long are you on the Internet for in one go? On many occasions I have been on it constantly for hours - you look up and suddenly 2 - 3 hours have gone. Time flys when you are using the internet! But the issue is that it's the damage done to young kids minds, these days kids at 3 and 4 years old are learning how to use technology - it's their brains that are being changed by it! |
Re: Internet damages the brain!?
The internet is good or bad according to how it is used.
I use it to broaden my knowledge and to internet shop to maintain my independant living. Those who use it for porn and twittering are wasting the opportunity for gaining knowledge. Although social networking proved useful for the arab spring revolutionaries. I do spend a large amount of time webbrowsing but I am incapable of going out much. The web is a better form of amusement and learning than the controlled info to be seen on TV. Subliminal messaging is on TV - any advertising man knows that! |

Have you any proof? A 3 or 4 year old able to search the web? Most of them only just have the motor skills to spin in a circle on one foot, nevermind use a keyboard! |

Yes Internet is an amazing tool for looking at knowledge and information! But the issue is most of us grew up without Technology and went through that period of time in childhood in which we read books, kids these days many are going straight onto using computers and now phones and i-pads and electronic books etc. The research suggest this may be harmful to the growing mind, may be less so for the mature minds like us! :D |
Re: Internet damages the brain!?
To me the biggest fault wi internet is some "Parents" They blindly let it "Rob" children of childhood.

Unless you are there and experience things first hand you have to decide for yourself what is true and what is rubbish. You believe in world domination and all that stuff, I am far to busy to worry about who wants to dominate me. I don't know why you let it bother you so much, life is to short, just enjoy it while you can. Tomorrow could be my last so I would rather enjoy my life than worry about what if's and maybe's that wont really affect me any way. |
Re: Internet damages the brain!?
I don't believe everything I see on the web any more than you do.
I am past worrying - just getting ready to 'go'. I have had a hectic life and my pleasure now is peaceful inner reflection. No-one has the right to dictate to me how I should live. |

Internet addiction can be as damaging to teenagers' brains as alcohol and drugs, a study suggests. Scientists say internet addiction disorder (IAD) is a recently recognised condition where individuals spend unhealthy amounts of time online. Researchers have now discovered it disrupts nerve wiring in adolescent brains in a similar way to people exposed to cocaine and cannabis. They believe it shows that being hooked on a behaviour can be just as physically damaging as addiction to drugs. Denied access to their computers, people may experience distress and withdrawal symptoms including tremors, obsessive thoughts, and involuntary typing movements of the fingers. http://news.sky.com/home/technology/article/16147572 |

That means the author of this has no substantial proof just an unproved theory. Children grow up fast in your world, yesterday it was 3 & 4 year olds, now they have developed into teenagers, still, spending less than 24 hrs going through pubity will have been less traumatic, maybe they will be able to cope with the internet in a similar manner? |

Re: Internet damages the brain!?
While there is some evidence that the use of computers/media devices/computer games, can affect developing brains, then I think it must be used with caution in the very young.
Certainly, teens and young adults seem to be more interested in texting their friends than having a face to face conversation....this cannot be useful when developing interpersonal skills. I have friends who are parents of teenagers, and they tell me that they get little more than grunts in the way of conversation from their children....and you might say that it was like that in your day...well, it wasn't in mine. Like all things...moderation is the key.........and a modicum of parental control. |

Attachment 19251 As for the Internet, admit to being an addict and totally obsessed. It lets me make a point without being interrupted; allows me a choice of direction; has no physical demands on me; expects nothing in return; puts me in charge of the 'remote' and leads me to climaxes with the correct solutions and satisfaction... :D On the minus side, am always burning my tea whilst watching an interesting thread unfold (not Accyweb though ... only joking Roy, honest). |
