Re: what an eyesore

I think you will find these signs only at the entrances to a 20mph zone, none of the streets contained within the area will have them, because after all you have been warned.

'This is not an obligation. Some authorities have a 'blanket' 20mph limit on side streets by-law. 20mph is impossible to enforce anyway. The speed guns can't differentiate speeds as accurately at that level and consequently the police refuse to enforce them. Hence the need for traffic calming, speed bumps etc.

The 20mph signing in residential areas is pretty much a nonsense. It doesn't force drivers to drive slower (unless there are accompanying speed bumps) and won't be enforced. However it is relatively low cost and makes politicians look good... even though in reality it does nothing without the traffic calming (which then increases the costs significantly).
'

Sorry Kate they are enforcable Neil says so.:rofl38::rofl38::rofl38::rofl38: Personally i have no objection to that speed limit, its sensible, i object to the complete waste of our money, no matter how much it costs.

Actually not. Take Sparth Road (Clayton). They are there as you enter ... top of Lynwood Avenue (off Sparth Road), then down my cul-de-sac road (off Lynwood).

Suppose it will make some drivers think twice though.

They drive fast down our way ( 20mph limit) to see if they can take off over the speed humps.

Re: what an eyesore

just passed them again today and 3 are already vandalised in a very short distance lol

also they put the 20mph signs on the very short streets near clayton lights which if by some miracle someone got to 30mph they would end up in a wall because they are very short dead end streets.

what an massive waste of money

Not going to happen, they've got rights :-

Article 12.

These signs are pure window dressing, just like No Ball Games, waste of time and unenforceable

window dressing usually looks nice and is appealing so as to attract people

what LCC have done here is make hyndburn look like a flipping warzone or will do by the time they have spent millions putting up 20mph signs on every single side street
