Another Community Beat Manager for Leyland Town Centre

Leyland Town Centre is set to benefit from another Community Beat Manager to help police the area.

PC Chris Gornall took up his new role recently to work with the current Community Beat Manager PC Rob Duerden - the officers will work together on high impact initiatives and increase the visible police presence on the town centre...

Aside from the obvious, can anyone explain to me what a "high impact initiative" is and what it does and why it might be something worth-while announcing. I understand the meaning of the individual words, but the meaning of the phrase baffles me.

A "High Impact Initiative", as once executed by the Lancashire Constabulary, was a good head-crack with a proper truncheon on the head of whichever yob deserved it. These days it probably amounts to dropping in for a coffee and a chat at the local Gay and Lesbian workshop and resource centre.

In other words it's something which costs money and has very little result to show for it.

In other words, making a song and dance about doing what they are supposed to be doing, to make it sound as though they are doing something more than we thought they were supposed to be doing.

Come on lads - why always so cynical? The facts and figures speak for themselves - they deal with 414 crimes per day and solve 110! Hey - 1 out of 4 aint bad!

That's 414 REPORTED Crimes. What about those that are not reported?

General rule of thumb is that 50% of crimes go unreported. So it's probably nearer 1 out of 8 and that ain't good!

Hmm, it also says "they deal with" which could imply that there are crimes reported which aren't deal with.

Speaking from personal experience we reported a crime a few years ago and were told that there's not much point trying to do anything about it because they won't be able to catch them. I wonder how many more crimes fit into that category?

High impact initiative is the bottom line if you know where i'm coming from and once every one is on base we can start again from square one
