Wild, wild, west.
Accrington was weird this afternoon.
We entered Broadway from the passage on the market side, and it was like being on a film set. Hundreds of people all stood in silence, facing each other. It was like walking onto a film set. Never experienced anything like it. You could cut the tension with a knife. Someone said there'd been a big fight, and there were some people cuffed, on their knees, being made to face the wall. What was it all about? |
Re: Wild, wild, west.
There was loads of police near the Castle Pub about 2 o clock. The Castle was shut and there was a few drunken souls making a noise making their way to the Crown Ground .

No football colours. They were all in black hoodies. Must be the Shrewsbury crew. :D |

Taming of the Shrew perhaps.:D:D

Re: Wild, wild, west.
Don't know if all the police activity in town today was connected or not. Had parked the car on Cannon Street and noticed when i was walking back to it, around noon a hell of a lot of police on Blackburn Road. When driving off Cannon Street, there was also a heavy police presence (sp) on the railway car park. Just glad i wasn't in town later on, sounds like it could have been a scene from OK Corral.

All cuffed up, on their knees, facing Marks and Sparks window. Lined up there like cheese a four pence. I've been going to football matches since the good old, bad old days of the early seventies. Strangest fans I've ever seen. No colours. Rooted to the spot, and an eerie silence. Very odd atmosphere to walk into. The ones arrested looked like Maundy Model Viilagers. More track marks, than trackies. |
Re: Wild, wild, west.
I wonder if they were mascarading as Shrewsbury Fans?

Broadway was packed, and nearly everyone was wearing black hoodies. We thought we'd wandered into a flash mob event. We're still waiting for the Victorian Swimming Gala, which was to be held on there. Perhaps you wear a hoodie nowadays, instead of pyjamas, when attempting your bronze swimming medal.:D |

That would be telling

Being a gold medal winner, of course. I was purely being rhetorical. ;) |

Apparently they have a great rivalry with Shrewsbury and decided to travel up and cause a bit of aggro. From what I heard there were 15 arrested. |
