Market Facing Pay

A new term I hadn't heard of.

'Market Facing Pay'

It means reducing pay for NHS workers in low pay areas.

So the Government's strategy for boosting low pay areas is to reduce pay even further in those areas.

The economics of the madhouse!

It happens in lots of companies so is nothing unique to the NHS. Where I work they were telling us that we are paid more than other local firms and national firms in the same business, that they always have paid more so they can attract the best staff and all that blurb. That extra money is soon swallowed up though in diesel though because I do about 20,000 miles a year just to get to work and back. A quick guess would be £3500 a year in diesel, that's not including the maintenance on a car with almost 260,000 miles on the clock .

Wonder why it is that for many many years the NHS has used Agency Nurses, even before the 6th May 2010;)

i think temps have to be paid holiday pay, might be wrong though. The 10 billion they are giving to the imf could have been more:eek: but if they had it would have needed a vote in parlamento they kept it just under:rolleyes: and they keep cutting here saying we have no money:mad:

I would think its paid through the agency, but they do get a hell of a sight more money than ordinary nurses, that is for sure

While I worked in the NHS, our unit did not use agency nurses.......we had our own 'bank' of nurses.
Many of the nurses worked on the 'bank' as a means of earning extra money(though they didn't get the same rates as agency nurses)......the advantage of using our own nurses was that their competencies were known.....and the other advantage was that they knew the patients they would be looking after.
This 'bank' work was done on their days off or annual leave days.

The NHS did institute a Bank of Nurses, so that the use of agency nurses ay exorbitant rates could be curtailed.
Our own(unit) nurses joined this bank of nurses, so that we could use them when the urgent need arose.
I much preferred using my own staff to cover shortfalls, for the reasons stated above.

It was always my understanding that NHS staff who worked in London, where the cost of living is higher, were paid 'London Weighting'.......they were paid more money that those of us who worked in the provinces.

London Weighting has always been paid in local government, too. It is accepted that living costs in the capital are higher than the rest of the country. However, that is seen as an ADDITIONAL allowance above national rates.

What we seem to have now is REDUCING the pay in certain areas because, basically, they can get away with it.
