Welcome To Accrington
4 Attachment(s)
If anybody is getting off a bus this morning in Accrington Bus Station ( we know there are thousands of them otherwise we wouldn't need a new bus station ) will be greeted by the views in the pictures attached.
Sadly this is a regular occurence. |
Re: Welcome To Accrington
I should also add that if anybody fancies the salad in the 3rd picture it should ne nice and fresh, it's only been there since yesterday lunchtime

Re: Welcome To Accrington
There are standards to be met- required by law.
http://www.nerwai.org.uk/uploaded/fi...520Law_613.pdf "Response times according to zoning Duty bodies are required to zone their land according to the zoning requirements implicated by the Code of Practice on Litter and Refuse. Land is zoned according to how intensively it is used by the public. Each zone has a response time within which the duty body should return land or highways to an acceptable standard. • High intensity of use (busy public areas) • Medium intensity of use (‘everyday’ areas, including most housing areas occupied by people most of the time) • Low intensity of use (lightly trafficked areas) • Areas with special circumstances (where issues of health and safety and reasonableness and practicability are dominant considerations when undertaking cleansing operations).! "Maximum response time to restore to grade A standard if it falls below grade B ‘1/2 a day’. This means by 6 p.m. if reported before 1 p.m. or by 1 p.m. the next duty day if reported between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on the previous day" |
Re: Welcome To Accrington
The cleaner does this stretch anytime between 9 & 11 in the morning, thats it for the day. Amazing considering the amount of foot traffic it gets.
Apart from the fact people are so idle to put the rubbish there in the first place it isn't helped that a rubbish bin damaged by a vehicle was removed and never replaced, depsite one of my neighbours writing to the council. It won't eliminate the problem but if people don't see a bin there is no chance of them going round searching for one. Once reported some dog dirt in the middel of the pavement and was told it would be cleared up next day when they do the rounds |
Re: Welcome To Accrington
I wonder if the new bus station will have some bins?

With it being so busy glad I'm not going down Accy this aft, I just hate crowds, maybe Mossy with be bringing in rent a crown from Rishton;)

Re: Welcome To Accrington
You can get fined for throwing litter in Manchester . They have wardens patrolling. We cant even get the council to prosecute people for dog fouling even when they have been given addresses.
|
Re: Welcome To Accrington
The rubbish was picked up 10 minutes ago, not sure if it was the actual street cleaner or somebody sent round specially as the pavement is still littered with dog ends. We will see what happens :)

Thanks to whoever is reading this at HBC :)
We've just had another street cleaner down the street. Hopefully there's one during the afternoon now :D |
Re: Welcome To Accrington
Several years ago I was told a tale of a business trip made to Accy by two senior executives who were looking to establish a distribution/warehousing facility around N.E. lancs. They were fully aware of the excellent motorway network, availability of low cost B1/B2 facilities and an overall low cost base around Hyndburn. The only thing they were unsure about was the general feel of the place and what other facilities the Borough had to offer.
Anyway, to cut the long story short, they arrived (by train from Preston) on a warm summer day. Proceeding down the ramp at the station they decided to order a cab to take them to the industrial estate they were interested in. Walking into the booking office – and I do not think it takes much imagination to work out which one – they were faced by a couple of 10-year olds who informed them that a cab would be a few minutes. After a quarter of an hour – during which time no adults were present the other side of the counter as the kids chatted away in Punjabi – they gave the cab up as a bad job and proceeded to walk into town and find another taxi company. Although by now running somewhat late, they decided to pop into a hostelry for a non-alcoholic brew and possibly to seek the advice of the locals. However, this in turn was of no avail has one mon at the bar objected to their suits and briefcases and someone else accused them of being a pair of puffters for ordering a coffee and a fruit juice. Needless to say, they turned tail to the railway station. and with it fifty or so jobs lost from Accy. The last time I got off a train there, nothing had changed so the moral of the story is yeah – upswept rubbish isn’t very nice, but it is not the only thing that needs sorting out. First impressions are crucial. |

To report back, yesterday and today we have had an am and a pm cleaner :D
Now if the council have actually acted on seeing this thread, can I just re-iterate how much the town is being dragged down by activities eminating from the Abbey St area area of town. The biggest industrial sized roadsweeper may be required :) |

Re: Welcome To Accrington
Strange that the very same bus station was a clean as a new pin just a couple of weeks ago when HRH turned up. I see it as it really is every week day morning, a dump, although to be fair there is now a new "nutter" hanging around, very entertaining he is too!

Re: Welcome To Accrington
If I am up late or cannot be bothered to walk to work-- I get the m&m bus @ 8oclock. It always seems to be the messiest part of the bus station. Is that created by all the claytoners returning to their smelly part of town? ;)
(yep that's a joke-- top end of Clayton does seem to smell at times) or is it just because there is often a lot of kids catch the bus there to go to school, whether it be moorhead, st chrises or wherever those other schools are.... |

Looks like we are back to square 1 :(
Took these pictures about 10 seconds after the street cleaner went past the shop. No the rubbish didn't just appear in those 10 seconds, he just couldn't be bothered picking it up. The pictures actually make it look cleaner than it was. Out of curiosity do Hyndburn Council not have one of those machines which clean chewing gum up ? |

Looked down at my feet whilst waiting for the bus only to find my self horrified at almost standing on a syringe. Hold it. No panic stations. Tell nearest person.
Was that you lancsdave? |

If the person you told kicked them in to the road then it was me :) Amazing that the cctv cameras on there spotted a sign outside the toilets when the Tories closed them, yet they never seem to spot people injecting themselves sat in a bus shelter  It's a regular occurence but maybe the problem will shift on to Broadway when Maundy start expanding on to there and the Arndale to fill all the empty shops |
Re: Welcome To Accrington
Yeah was you. Thanks for that. I couldn't have done much refferring to the "are you scared of needles" thread with it myself. Hospitals and Doc's I will grin and bear it--the pointer of that needle may as well have been 10ft and it was pointing right at my foot when I looked at it. ugh.
I may have to start re-evaluating my opinion about maundy.... Quote:

Around 10 years ago I went for a look round the CCTV room in the police station, at that time, it was manned by people from Remploy, dunno if that's still the case though

Re: Welcome To Accrington
Well if the cameras were working yesterday they would have picked up the dirty pig who decided to have a pee on the street instead of walking the few extra yards to the toilets
The same person was earlier sat in one of the open bus shelters with 4 others openly drinking cans of beer and letting the whole world know in graphic sexual detail what they were going to do to some woman when they got hold of her. Anybody who was in that vicinity visiting the town for the first time won't be back thats for sure. Disgusting scum in a lawless town :mad::mad: |
