Pressure sales

BBC News - Elderly warned over pressure-selling by rogue firms

Thought it would be interesting to put this link in and discuss the people who have tried this on with you either over the phone or on your doorstep.

With the same idea, I had a young lad ring my doorbell around 5-15pm last night, I talked to him through the intercom system and he said he was "canvasing for the Samaritans" there seemed to be another couple knocking about, but I've never come across this before, has anybody else had a call

A few weeks ago about 5 or 6pm there was a ring at the door and I looked out from an upstairs window from which I can get a very good view of who is there. It appeared to be a person wearing a lanyard with ID card and a Macmillan Cancer Relief T shirt. I did not go to the door.

I have nothing against this charity or most others but I do object to being cold called by them and I have no doubt being asked to commit regular money. This is as bad as the chuggers who accost you in a shopping street. If I give to charity, I wish to choose what charity, when and how much, myself.

Strangely, the same evening I was phoned and asked to take part in a survey about charities. Having nothing better to do I agreed and was subjected to the usual barrage about how often and how much I give to various types of charities. At the end the caller revealed that the survey was being carried out on behalf of Macmillan.

I have always donated to certain Charities - "Of My Choosing" the amount @ how often is also "My Choice" If one of these bothers me at the door or phones, If they happen to be on me list of Donors, They will be struck off my list pronto, Damn Cheek.:(

We had someone cold calling asking for money for the R.S.P.C.A. His first remark on seeing our Max was " Oh I see you like animals. What do you think about them being ill treated?. Then he got down to the nitty gritty about making a monthly donation to the R.S.P.C.A.I told him I give to charities I want to and the R.S.P.C.A. is not one of them. He then had the cheek to ask why. To which I replied " They spend too much on vehicles and uniforms" Why cant they wear simple overalls and spend more money on the animals. He left with his tail between his legs.
