Coming from Mars is so less complicated
I'd argue it's stories like this that 'put women off sport', and also 'put women off being women'
BBC News - Women athletes fear pressures over appearance The only people who believe in the 'perfect' woman is...wait for it....women. Brainwashed by 'girly' magazines to believe that all blokes want either, the latest fashion stick insect, Jodie Marsh, Cheryl Cole or (god forbid) Katie Price. It's typical that this piece was written by....wait for it..... women. I think of myself as a typical bloke, ok i'm well past my prime but I can still look and admire. :P Us typical blokes don't have an ideal 'perfect' woman, we like fat, thin, spotty, unblemished, smart, dumb, shapely and unshapely. We most definitely do not like the airbrushed, malnourished, publicity seeking rent-a-totties in the aforemetioned girly mags. Women fought for the vote, then they fought for equality, now they appear to be fighting amongst themselves over what makes them attractive to men, without actually asking..men! |
Re: Coming from Mars is so less complicated
Apart from a few teenage years, only thing ever attracted me was personality.

Re: Coming from Mars is so less complicated
Glad to see there are some decent Martians out there after all!:D

Re: Coming from Mars is so less complicated
Well I always thought women were from Venus and men were from Mars:rolleyes::D

Re: Coming from Mars is so less complicated
I always admired intelligent men
but never found one that fancied me. Maybe I wasn't intelligent enough for them :D |

Re: Coming from Mars is so less complicated
You only even need two phrases.........or maybe three if you really want all the brownie points.
1) I'm sorry(said in a tone like he means it) 2) I was wrong(again, said like it is meant) 3) You are right darling(see the riders on 1&2) Life would be far less complicated if boys were taught this from about the age of 4. :D Now I'm going to duck! |

Not for me Retlaw, the cyclical logic disappeared more than 20 years ago...and as for the rest, refer to rule 1 and 2...and you won't go wrong.

Drinking beer, eating Pizza and operating the remote control...three things that most men can do, as well as watch the game......maybe we can work on the transfer of these skills to areas that are compatible with a happy life.......after all, they are just phrases to be learned...and said at the appropriate time, with the right kind of feeling........we KNOW that they don't actually mean it......but it is the grease of social interaction, makes the wheels turn.......no grease...no action:D.
It isn't really multi-tasking. |

Re: Coming from Mars is so less complicated
Retlaw, your mind must be boggled very easily.
As for lying, men do it very easliy.....'I'm just going for a swift half' six hours later he's not back and his dinner is in the dog. Maybe this impacts on the (so called) illogical feelings of women. This thread was, I'm sure, not meant to be serious. So just unboggle that wonderful mind of yours and smile.........as for the logic and illogicality(is there such a word) of men and women respectively. I once heard a stall holder on the market say 'Eeh, aren't women queer'.......'Yes' I told him. 'They were made to match men'. I have been married now for 46 years....so together we must be doing something right. |

In old age men become just different shaped people.
When sexuality and stereotyped gender roles are no longer a factor, they do appear to the weaker of the two body types - both in stamina and emotional maturity. |

To be obsessed with gender is primitive - we are all just humans.

I agree Margaret....and the lines of gender have becomes so blurred now........I know some men who are really just old women....and worst of all they would agree with me.
(but then maybe they are lying - work it out) |

Of course I have Eric...like I was telling Retlaw...men do not need encouragement to stretch the truth...they do it already...and the best of it is we know they do it.
Anyway mine doesn't go out to the pubs for a drink now...he says a lot of the pubs are full of daft kids...he prefers to have a gin or three at home(beer doesn't agree with him these days - gives him chronic indigestion). |

You don't need to be a fisherman John......don't tell me that you never told your lady that you were going out for a swift half at 2pm and stumbled home at stupid o clock...most men that I know have done that trick. Beer goggles must inhibit the ability to check the time.......and Yes, Eric...I know that a swift half usually means the whole afternoon...but not midnight(or later).

German mayor defends 'men only' parking spots - World - CBC News Let's hear it for the Martians:dancedog::D What's complicated about the fact that women don't know how to park? |
Re: Coming from Mars is so less complicated
Well Eric I was once told that it was because a man once showed a lady something and told her it was nine inches...this gave her a distorted sense of size and proportion.
I have to say...personally....and I drove for twenty five years or more....I never ever had any difficulty in parking my car. It is a huge generalisation to say that women cannot park a car...and worse still to infer that it is because they are WOMEN......not that they have not had the appropriate driver education...because that is what it boils down to. Practice when you are learning is the key. My driving instructor was like a dog with a bone......I had to do it until I was proficient at it. Sorry to get on the soapbox Eric, but it was a slur agains those of us who can park. |

Re: Coming from Mars is so less complicated
Yes, you are right......it is something that has to be taught...and if it isn't taught well then it doesn't matter what gender you are it will take you time to formulate your own strategies to do it well....to be fiar, I think some people are just lazy parkers......they know how to park but don't bother to do it well, for whatever reason.
I hate those who park with their vehicle halfway on the pavement. They do not realise that mothers with prams are inconvenienced...wheelchair users too. |

Whatever. Men don't dust; and women can't park. Mention to a man that he can't dust and he will just shrug his shoulders and wander off to the pub.:alright: Mention to women that they can't park and they leap onto soap boxes and vent, when they should be at home dusting. Bright side is, the roads and parking lots are safer when they are out of the way, jumping about on soapboxes. Men concentrate on their driving when they are parking; women look in their rear views, checking their makeup and looking for split ends, and park by ear.:D |
Re: Coming from Mars is so less complicated
Eric....you are generalising...and this business about men shrugging their shoulders and women leaping onto their soap box and having a rant...is this meant to suppress healthy debate? Like when you call someone a racist, they shut up for fear of the PC brigade?
I can dust, but don't much care for it...and I can park a car..because it was taught to me very well by my driving instructor - more years ago that I care to remember. He would tell me that there were just as many bad drivers in each gender. That some were so, because they had been badly taught...and that others had learned sloppy driving habits.....and had not much consideration for other road users. |
Re: Coming from Mars is so less complicated
You need to come up near us when it's school start or finish time. The way some of the parents park with 75% of their vehicle on the pavement, not enough room for a pram, wheelchair or mobility scooter to pass. When I rang the police to say it was illegal I was told that they have nowhere else to park.
|
Re: Coming from Mars is so less complicated
So they have nowhere else to park...that makes it legal does it?
The police patrol the school near me and notices have gone up about illegal parking. Parking on the pavement damages the paving stones.....and is hazardous to wheelchair users and prams....they have to go into the road to get around parked vehicles....a dangerous thing to do. |

Re: Coming from Mars is so less complicated
I remember one Sunday morning a few years ago, I looked out of my front window and for the only time since I moved into Mallard Place 26 years ago the car park was completely empty, there are I should think around car parking spaces for 18 cars, of which 3 were designated for the use of disabled drivers. The first car to pull on the car park was a young woman, she was about 19 or 20 years old, where did she park, in one of the designated disabled bays:idunno:
