Can we get rid of Peter Britcliffe?
Just read a very interesting article from a Neil Herron called "Rebellion in North Grows" in the The Times Opinion. Maybe there is a way to get rid of the HBC Leader?
: In Northumberland, 35,000 people petitioned to save the schools. This has spawned a pressure group led by John Harrison named K3 which is exploiting an unnoticed provision in the Local Government Act 2000. This allows a petition of just 5 per cent of local electors to demand a referendum for the direct election of a mayor (or governor). In a highly charged atmosphere, such a referendum is likely to pass. A mayoral candidate committed to saving local schools or hospitals then stands a good chance of beating any conventional party candidates. Under a mayoral constitution, the council as such would vanish. The full article is at: http://neilherron.blogspot.com/2004/...rth-grows.html |

I don't know if that's possible in Hyndburn, but I can be sure there will be at least one effigy of Britcliffe getting burnt a week on friday...I bet A-Bob's already got his done, complete with bangers up the ar*e. (the Guy, that is)

Re: Can we get rid of Peter Britcliffe?
Sorry I haven't been around much the last couple of day's, I've had one or two things to store in the cellars under Scaitcliffe House - say no more.
I think the Mayoral Referendum thing is a BRILLIANT IDEA! We need about 4000 signatures on the petition as a minimum. I'll offer mine as the first one, to get the ball rolling, any other takers? |
Re: Can we get rid of Peter Britcliffe?
Get rid of Britcliffe, are you serious? Surely we should start a fan club. Doesn't one of Hyndburn's finest comedians deserve recognition?

For one brief moment there when I read the title I thought Darby was getting Al Capone tendancies.
