What a shame you can only vote on facebook. I'm sure there are a lot of folks on here who would be happy to oblige if that weren't involved.

Seems a bit daft to me, only being able to vote on facebook, but thats ossys loss in my view.

Its nothing to do with Ossy and all to do with Flora deciding to use facebook for its competition/advertising

It seems like a good idea to get a free revamp of a local play area, but when I saw it was a marketing ploy to promote artificial food, I decided not to participate.

I'll carry on clicking it every day.

Hardly much effort, and if it's successful, great.

I think they are in the lead at the moment, I have clicked every day since I was told about it and I hope they get the money.

I was present when the young lad did his presentation on the area - he was very good.

Me as well Neil and sod the fact its being promoted by a food company at least they are trying to put something back into communities

Do you think? I think they are using a cheap way to get their product on many people's Facebook wall. I see it as an advertising campaign for them but I don't care if some community benefits from it.

Hi Jackie, do you know who entered West End into the competition? Have you formed a community group to apply for funding etc?

Re: West end park revamp competition

Hi Neil, Think it was Lisa Allen from oswaldtwistle council, as she gave us all the details, and they are currently trying to help us fund our local park, as no-one has the funds to help at the council or lancashire council. My 12yr old son has been working alongside them as this was his campaign, he has been delivering flyers around west end, is going into tesco on sunday to give out flyers, lisa has managed to get his story onto 107 the bee/2br radio station, he has been in the lanacshire telegraph and hopefully next week back into accrington observer, so really hoping that this will work!!Not sure what the next step will be if it doesn't...

I have been voting, although I am bemused at the 'voting every day' system ?
Can someone explain this to me, please.

It does seem odd -I suppose it's a sort of popularity contest.

Good on your son.

I'm sure you're rightly proud.

I click every day, and keep posting it on my wall, in the hope some of my friends will also do it.

It's been clicked from Italy quite a few times already.

I'll work on Spain next.

:D

Just trying to see if it was possible to vote directly.

You can't.

Sorry if you're not on Facebook.

You do need to be logged in there, in order to vote.

Flora want something for their £30k and its us advertising for them - I don't mind a bit of advertising for them if it works.

That's not what I was getting at, Neil, meant the count of votes. Not exactly 'one man, one vote', more like 'one man, numerous votes' if that makes sense. Not tru'istic of the number of people who support this cause.

Ah, think I see now ... is just like a game ... get as many hits as you can, nothing to do with the merits of the bid or number of voters.

Will keep on voting ... except the site appears to be down at the moment. :(

I tried earlier to vote and it gave me an error too and wouldn't go to the link -thought it was just me.

When was the deadline - perhaps it's already over?

It's second place at the moment.
I don't like the way it's down to votes and not merit either Kate but unless you have £30,000 it's worth trying.
From experience I would not expect £30,000 is enough to do what the people involved expect but it will help.

Agreed.

Basically it's a competiton, run as part of a commercial enterprise's advertising campaign.

As it's free to vote, and no skin off my nose, and this area might benefit, I'll keep on voting every day, until it ends at the end of the month.

:)

Thanks everyone for your daily votes :) Let's keep it up, we have once again took first place, but keeping us there is another thing! BBC radio lancashire did an interview with my son, so that should be on in the next day or so, so hopefully that will help, also we have been round to all local schools in oswaldtwistle, asking them to give out flyers to the children, so hopefully that will also help, will keep you posted x

Definitely just a two horse race now, and very close.

Lancashire versus the northeast.

Keep voting, every day, and get others to do the same!

garinda 07-09-2012 21:03

Re: West end park revamp competition

To anyone on Facebook, if you could please keep voting daily for this, just until the end of the month, it'll be most appreciated.

We've got Accy Web's LancYorkYankee garnering support for his Lanky kin over in Culpeper, Virginia, and it's working. Though to win we really do need support for this local cause to go viral...globally.

It really is just a two horse race now. Lancashire versus the northeast, with £20,000 worth of funding up for grabs.

Our bid was submitted by a twelve year old local boy, in the hope the money can be spent on much needed refurbishments at the playground at West End, Ossy, and which will greatly benefit kids younger than himself.

If you can, please help a young person learn an invaluable lesson. That sometimes, when you get up off your arse, you can make a real difference.

If you're on Facebook please vote, and ask your friends to vote every day in September, and also post the link on their pages, and ask their friends to support this lad too.

We've now got votes coming in from the U.S., Italy, Switzerland, and Spain. If you know someone abroad you think may help, ask them.

Every vote counts.

As it stands we're on 8,153, and Gateshead are in the lead at 8,556. Third place are way back on 1,962.

Every vote will count, and it will be so sad if we're so close to winning, but don't.

Here's the link, to where you can vote for the local bid on Facebook -

https://apps.facebook.com/floraplayg...estEndplayarea

Thanks, in advance,

Just had a peep to check -when I voted this morning Ossy was ahead -now it's Chase Park, NE.

It really is swings and roundabouts -please keep voting and spread the request among your facebook friends...:)

Really is a two horse race now.

Us, and the northeast.

I think Gateshead's must be using a whip, as we turn into the home straight.

We really do need every single vote, every single day, if we're to cross the finishing line in first place.

Giddy-up.

Please vote, if you're on Facebook.
