However, more importantly, why on earth would any EU citizen take all the time and trouble to register as a student simply to disappear? As ChurchFC points out, as an EU citizen, they can simply move here anytime they want. :confused:

I understood it as EU students getting subsidised by their own countries, but I may be wrong...

But if they get subsidies from their own government, and the are free to live and work here, then surely we gain out of that? As they are bringing money into the system and not taking it out?

The way I read it it doesn't seem to be an EU problem does it? As has been rightly pointed out there is no need for an EU citizen to "scam" their way into the country, they are free to come here anyway.
