On A Happier Note
A fair bit is said about our youth not wanting jobs, avoiding work whenever possible, willing to put up with the dole rather than do anything.
I would like to take a chance to say well done, you prove that the above isn't true. What the heck am I talking about? Well the young lads and lasses that wander up and down outside ASDA and a few other places wearing billboards, perhaps you haven't noticed them? They advertise a furniture warehouse, well done to them and well done to the company that employs them, they are probably on a minimum wage, but I admire the fact they are out there in public showing they are prepared to do what the majority of young folk would like to do, WORK. :D |
Re: On A Happier Note
i too commend them, only my suspicious nature, i am always curious as to the reason they wear a mask, i like to think its to avoid the embarrassment of doing such a job, and getting unwarranted stick off their peers, but good on em for earning a few quid doing what ever it takes, for this they have my upmost regard, however the more cynical side thinks, its so the social dont know they are working and signing on, i hope i am wrong on this count and its the former.
its horrible always seeing the negative in things  |
Re: On A Happier Note
As they obviously don't provide the costume, makes it a no-no to me.

as for my thought applied to the site, its an open forum, thats the idea, different peoples thoughts. only you choose to just put people down for having an opinion, oh well same old |
Re: On A Happier Note
I read yer post n thought the cynicism was unwarranted, n possibly done fer n ulterior motive.
|
Re: On A Happier Note
and what ulterior motive could i possibly have?
for pointing out one of my own failings! |

Yes, I put down your negative thoughts in a positive thread, do you do it deliberately because I started it, or without thinking because you are just a nasty person with nasty ideas? |
Re: On A Happier Note
Would you like to have a go at me too - cos something similar had crossed my mind as ChurchFC posted.
Or perhaps let's put the big wooden spoons away, stop stirring and have a sensible discussion. |

dont flatter yerself that much less, would have posted exactly the same whover made the comment i DID commend these yung people for doing anything they can too earn a few quid, wish there was more like em, i have done it as i am sure lots of others on here have to but dont pretend that this sort of thing doesnt happen, where scrupulous employers pay way below minimum wage and cash in hand, nasty person or not it happens |

didnt respond because i didnt follow, wasnt clear enough for me to comment on, as for it being obvious that the employer provides the costume, how so?

Re: On A Happier Note
oh i get it now, only post on less thread if you agree 100%, 95% aint enough
the spoons was your response to my post i believe, instead of allowing a fellow member to have their say, you just shot em down for having an opinion that differs slightly |

the fact that tghey are wearing a mask that is now way out of date as far as pop culture goes was lee francis former personna he moved on from that around 5 years ago, long time in pop culture that |

And yes, if you cut me in half you will find "cynical" written through like a stick of rock - I get it from my dad who was the most cynical person I know. |

Now do I tell you to sod off, or just suggest you go away in short jerky movements? Or would you consider it hurtful? |

So the costumes are old...owner of the shop probably saw them going cheap at some auction or other and had an idea about putting them to good use and employing a couple of kids. But hey if it floats your boat to think of a couple of hard working youngsters as con artists, its your perogative. |
Re: On A Happier Note
that not what i originally said is it now, another who needs to actually read, i questioned the reason and offered 2 of my alternatives for the reason, no one picked up on the other reason, here is another the employer may actually think its more eye catching

Re: On A Happier Note
Do you know I've been in bother with folk on here for posting the opposite of what they want to think, but when I started this thread about young people out in all weathers I didn't think it would be anything but praise for them being in public view working hard at probably a job they had to have several GCSE's just to get an interview, just show's how nasty some of our members can be, I'd hoped for encouragement so that others might follow their example.
Yeah I know, more fool me. |
Re: On A Happier Note
selective reading then!
dont worry less, im off to work again now, doing whatever it takes to pay the bills! as for grudges, life is way too short fella, i bid you adieu, enjoy your evening, put your feet up, you never know someone else with a slightly different outlook on life may be along any minute, the you can condemn and dismiss their opinion too cheerio fella, ps dont have nightmares! |

My cynical mind wondered if they might possibly, just possibly be being exploited - or possibly not. If the latter is the case, then good on them for having a job and I am in full agreement with Less - but surely someone has to point out the possible flaws in any scenario? |

Nasty remarks = 'Fun thread'
I just don't see any humour in these so called 'fun threads' you inflict on us now and again. |

well done however for your sudden bit of back peddling, maybe I've also given you a dig in the past that has left a festering wound? If so I won't apologise, just ask you to reply in the thread concerned NOT bring it onto the rest of the site. ;) |

I hope I'm woman enough to take part in this forum without being cowed by anyone - take it on the chin and come back fighting! I back pedalled as you put it because I don't really know what's going on here, it was just a thought that came into my head when I read your post. |
Re: On A Happier Note
because of those masks worn by the billboard advertisers craig david is wanted on 3 counts of benefit fraud :D
seriously though as they are out all weathers i dare say the masks keep them not only annonymous but dry and warm too must be flipping boring but at least their earning a few quid |
Re: On A Happier Note
A happier note ... mmm:rolleyes: When I read the thread opener, I expected to see a few positive comments about how reassuring it is to see that some young people are getting out and doing a menial job in tough times (well, tough in most of Europe) rather than sitting on their asses waiting for society or something like that to support them. But this? I don't know ... I think it's a positive to find that some kids still have that old-fashioned Lancashire work ethic ... you know, "when the going gets tough; the tough get going" sort of thing. Ah well, back to cleaning guns. Anyone wanna buy a Winchester 94, chambered for 44 magnum? Excellent condition. Great for moose.;)

Re: On A Happier Note
Good on 'em I say! I know a young person who does the same thing in Manchester and he puts up with the mindnumbing boredom, sudden downpours, abuse from passing winos and derelicts (God help anyone in downtown Accy  ) just so he can pay his way in the world.
Have total and utter cynicism for those in authority including politicians, both national and local, but always like to think the best of ordinary folk. |

I guessed you hadn't actually seen them, and that you had made a leap of faith which for a scientist is an anathema ;) Of course they are being exploited, but the last thing they need is to be accused of ripping off the taxpayer. The only flaws in the scenario come from misinformation i.e someone adding an unnecessary compound to the petri dish |

I'd argue the opposite.....that science is not about leaps of faith, it's about 'leaping to conclusions' and then seeking to prove those conclusions. |
Re: On A Happier Note
I also applaud these youngsters for getting out there and doing whatever is on offer to earn a few quid. And by the way there was a young lass wearing one of these billboards on Hyndburn Road this afternoon, she wasn't wearing a mask:rolleyes:

Re: On A Happier Note

I simply raised the question of why the mask, she wasnt wearing one therefore avoids the question, and the latter part of my post isnt applicable, and only the first part is. where Less do you get the idea that it was a grudge? that i was being personal? what in my statement made you think i was having a go at you? in this post it is because i am addressing you directly, in my first post there was nothing to suggest anything of the sort. when you talk about grudges and bias towards someones post, maybe you need to start looking a little closer to home? you then resorted to type and name calling, rather than offer any valid argument, as to why my more cynical side would dream up such a far fetched idea, just got all upset that i had to offer an opinion that wasnt popular. wearing a masks main objective is to conceal ones identity, questioning why someone would want to isn't getting at you is it? offering possible alternatives to ones own question is simply sharing your thoughts and offering it up for debate you need to get over this thinking that you have that i only post to annoy you, the fact that my posts annoy you isnt my problem but your own. and if i held grudges, why would i send you karma last week? |
