Hillsborough 1989 - 2013
One of the highlights of 2012 was the report that exposed the absolutely appalling police behaviour following the Hillsborough disaster.
The success of the song He Ain't Heavy , He's My Brother has put the subject back at the top of the political agenda, and quite rightly so. 2013 will see the new inquests, with the likely verdicts of unlawful killings, and the inevitable consequences that will bring. Given the support that Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher gave to the South Yorkshire Police immediately following the 1989 disaster, it is completely right that she will live to see how her part in any conspiracy is judged before she pops her clogs. We await the findings with interest. |

Re: Hillsborough 1989 - 2013
From interviews, it seems that every fan who went to Hillsborough knew that that part of the ground was prone to over crowding and didn't meet the safety standards of the day. The first people to blame would be the owners of the stadium.
I saw the saga unfold but I would think that a female politician wouldn't have seen the live broadcasts which included that desperate man in the crush shouting "You're killing us" to the policeman who refused to help. Until recently, not one investigation/enquiry set up by parliament showed the police to be at fault. How many outsiders including the prime minister were to know that behind closed doors the police were manipulating and/or withholding evidence? |

Re: Hillsborough 1989 - 2013
The MP who was the source of lies and false accusations following Hillsborough has died.
Ex-MP Involved In Hillsborough Smear Dies Will he escape having his knighthood stripped from him? Who knows. Lets hope we are spared the hollow tributes from the Government front bench for a man who, it seems, died of shame. |

Re: Hillsborough 1989 - 2013
Will there be a song for the dead of Heysel Stadium as well I wonder or was that disaster swept under the carpet?. 39 dead and English teams banned from Europe for five years, not LFC's finest moment...

Re: Hillsborough 1989 - 2013
Just finished watching tonight's Panorama. God help the good citizens of South Yorkshire and the UK in general if such inept or possibly corrupt officials continue to be in charge.
