What happens at an atheist church?

A friend forwarded this article to me(a christian) he said he saw this and thought of me. Don't know why-- -- If moody I tell those that ask that I am a member of the church of Scientology(or just tell the truth and say I am Agnostic-Borderline-Atheist)

Oh anyway
What happens at an atheist church? Well I didn't think one existed. But one does; In London.... Not that I am remotely interested in attending.

Yeah I saw this Rob and thought of you - and me - and those others of a similar persuasion - or none.

I think the last thing atheists should be doing is associating themselves with anything remotely resembling a "church" - except possibly to go and look at medievel architecture and art. Strikes me that those who need this sort of get together are still searching for something.

What goes on? - A celebration of life without mention of the BOFT. The fact that it's held in an old (deconsecrated) church is neither here nor there, it's just using an old empty building.

What is BOFT?

When I googled I got this
BOFT - Definition by AcronymFinder
which doesn't seem to mean what you intended it to.

** BOFT Bearing Oil Film Thickness
** BOFT Blown Optical Fiber Technology

Now I wouldn't mind that sort of church Less, we could do it by email and still have time for the pub - see below.

i must be strange (no comment on that on), but i quite like the idea of the communal gathering, bringing the community together on a weekly basis, discussing local issues, all of the things the church does but without the god thing

if there was one in accy i think i would attend, but then again, as i say im strange

i agree, no need to meet to re-afirm your own beliefs, but isnt it human nature to "gather communally", be it in the pub, social clubs etc etc, as i say i like the idea of a "church" community, but have no interest in a supreme being, just find the idea appealing.

Does anyone really care? The whole idea of atheists gathering together...

To do what?

Nothing of any use to man, beast or anyone else's version of a God.

They must be worse than those annoying folk that knock on the door trying to convert us all from sin, they at least believe in what they are spouting.

Always thought an atheist had no belief, therefore why should we gather together, unless it's to remove the God given free will we all have?

Ya but they all use the same Bible, like the different factions in Islam, sadly its the interpretation of these books, which cause all the trouble, because in the days when these books were first written, many things and statements meant entirely different to what they mean in today's society, yet their are people who think that carrying out things written in say the Koran, in today's society is how it should be, and lets not forget it was written in the first place in Arabic too

True. Its also why some say the bible cannot be the word of God, even if God existed; because it has been translated and 'edited' so many times it cannot be concluded to be the exact word of god. "King James Version" springs to mind

As Atheist's don't worship any god because they don't believe, why bring other religions into the mix? You're original post asked "What happens At An Atheist Church?" a connundrum in itself, if there is no belief why the need for a church?:confused::confused:

I'd heard that the sacremental wine was delivered from the spitoon by the side of the bar and that it was tradition to down it in one swallow because the contents tend to stick together, or are they a different faction of Red Knecks?
