Online papers
 

Being overseas it's a bit awkward to peruse the English dailies so I do a fair bit of news browsing on-line. As I settled into my usual Sunday routine the partaking of a bacon & egg toasted butty lathered with butter & HP, all accompanied with a big mug of tea. I began my scrutiny of the daily propaganda on display in the "Sunday Torygraph". After plodding through various niff, naff & trivia, looking to my next tale of woe, I was confronted with a pop up informing me I'd reached my limit of 20 free reads for the Month & should I wish to continue, I should subscribe & start paying, yes paying GBP 1.99 per month ......... :eek:

Now I'm assuming this must be a new thing as its never happened to me before (honestly :)). So I went elsewhere for my news, "The Independent" actually & as far as I know there was no limitations on their free browsing. So has anyone else had this happen, or is this to be the the future of newspaper reading ? If so, not only will the decline of sales of the dailies on the high street persist, but I believe the on-line audience will also dry up leaving the transfer of information to the tv networks, not ideal in my view.

The Times has been charging for a while - £4 £6 or £8 per WEEK - depending on content. I suppose they have costs and if they aren't met by advertising revenue etc. then they will have to charge a subscription. Can't really expect people who buy the actual paper to keep subsidising on-line browsers?

Problem with online papers is obvious: You can't wipe your ass on them:mad: Come to think of it, you can't swat skeeters with 'em either.:D

I think that newspapers will go this way.
I like to take the newspaper to the lavvy too.........and puzzles......I do the puzzles, sat on the lav...it really concentrates the mind(OK TMI).

When searching for news (instead of diversionary propaganda :rolleyes:) there are some which only use the web.
