The old Holdens Pottery on the top road is or has been under reconstruction for some time may be that is being done for the tourist trade..... Having said that work has come toa standstill amidst rumours o a certain councillors involvement and a bit of back door dealing (BUT IT'S ONLY A RUMOUR) Hmmm...

Re: Accrington - Tourist Area?
I think that Accrington needs to:
A: Sort out its transport links and bus and train stations. These need to be made as easy to use as is humanly possible, comfortable, clean and friendly. B: Next someone needs to go through the town centre with a JCB and get rid of traffic signs and bollards which clutter the streets; there are too many of them and they contribute towards making the place look untidy. C: Someone needs to have a word with the Pound Shops and the Charity Shops and tell them that they are no longer welcome. D: The council then need to place a ban on change of use planning applications for retail premises from solicitors, accountants, estate agents and employment agencies. E: The council then needs to start a massive National advertising campaign, to sell Accrington as a haven for independent specialist retailers, offering business rate holidays, free gifts, a big welcome party at the Town Hall and any other inducement they can think of. Basically, turn the town centre into a place that is attractive to business and help them to get here and the shoppers and tourists will follow. This took me ten minutes to type, one fag and a cup of tea. It didn't need hundreds of hours in consultations, hundreds of thousands of pounds in consultancy fees and endless weeks and months of municipal handwringing. If I can come up with this in ten minutes on a frosty monday morning. What the F**k are the paid idiots at HBC doing with their time and our resources???? And if the Idiot-in-Chief needs any more pointers on how to manage the town, drop me a PM, I would be only too happy to assist. |
Re: Accrington - Tourist Area?
I agree AB apart from one piont where I think your report is sadly lacking....In paragragh E. A welcome party at the town hall would be a very bad move. Prospective investors would surely pull out and go elswhere having spent an evening with some of the idiots at HBC, especially thr I I C. My second piont would be why should the councillors have the opportunity to enjoy the party the investors would probably enjoy an Accy Web meeting better .

Re: Accrington - Tourist Area?
I wouldnt trust the council to orginise a day visit to the town hall let alone a party or to entice in new business. I twould be a case of who can "cave explore the most."

I think we should have licenced buskers.
A man on the organ accompanied by a little monkey in a bonnet, always rises a smile from me.:) |

Re: Accrington - Tourist Area?
Taking Tony Wilson's idea of attracting extreme sports to the borough, how about Councillor Baiting? Or even better, what was that thing which made the papers sometime last year, where people armed with mobile phones organised mass get-togethers at designated sites? Couldn't we organise a mass crash of council meetings during which all the participants had to wear fearfully un-stylish clothes and repeat the word "Waffle" incessantly. Or even better, what if they all turned up claiming to be the District Auditor.

Re: Accrington - Tourist Area?
If they turned up as distict auditors they had better be an army of cleaners on hand the fall out from them will be huge. :D
