Sins of the parents?

She's an idiot, a self publicist and a failed apprentice but....snob, moron or does she have a point? Her own kids are called 'India' and 'Poppy', (Poppy I can just about live with, but India kinda negates her right to enter a debate on the name of a child being proportional to the intelligence of the parents)

Holly Willoughby loses her cool with Katie Hopkins in ANOTHER class row on 'This Morning' - YouTube

She talks about not letting her kids play with other kids based on their names (Tyler, Kylie, Charmaine etc..), which of course is outrageous because you cannot blame the kids for the names they are given by their parents.

Fifi Trixibelle and Peaches (Paula Yates), Brooklyn and Romeo (Posh and Becks), Zowie (David Bowie), River, Summer, Liberty and Rain Joan of Arc Phoenix (hippie parents)

But.... in reality do kids named after Harry Potter or Twilight characters behave worse than those with traditional names? And if they do, is this because their parents have stereotypical poor parenting skills because they choose names based on fads, films and TV programs?

(Egg&Chips if you're still lurking I'd be interested in a teachers view on this one)

We have been conditioned to be prejudiced towards some names.
Remember Wayne and Waynetta :D

Re: Sins of the parents?

Conceited, so far up herself snotty Mare! Does it really matter what the kids called? As long as they're polite, mannered & well behaved who cares? So their parents may not have been the best at name selection, but as long as they do right by their offspring & teach them right from wrong.

On top of that, if that's her attitude to UK choices, she'd be having kittens about an Ali, Abdul or Mohammed. :D

Seems like she's the result of bad breeding, she's shown herself up for the stuck up, ignorant troll that she is. She's also put her own children up for ridicule now, the sins of the parents indeed.

Nah, these people are never wrong, they choose names to show how individual they are, we, (the scum), choose names like, John, Mary, Robert, Jean.
Mainly because we haven't been edificated, have no imagination and don't want our kids beaten up in the playground, (even posh kids can be cruel about a name).

Yes, I know, my folk named me to honour a friend that died in WW2, unfortunately the chant was always, Leslie is a girls name.
It was worse for the girls called Lesley, they got called Les's by the ignorant.

Ha, I was gonna call my first one Lesley if it had been a girl cos I liked the name but he was a boy and got Paul (which he tells me he has never liked as there were three in his class at school). This was the 1980's!

This has quite often been the case. Let's call the Bible a "fad" ... why not;) ... many names are Biblical in origin. Even Jesus comes up as a name ... ("Hey mom, if Jesus was jewish, how come he had a Mexican name?") ... Nationla heroes/heroines ... great leaders ... and why is it that suicide bombers are usually called Mohamed??????? Some names are invented by authors ... "Pamela", for example, was created by Sir Phillip Sydney for "The Countess of Pembroke's Arcadia" ... And the name really took off in popularity after the publication of Richardson's "Pamela". And now we have kids named after skanks who spend half their lives in rehab ... go figure, eh.

Still feel sorry for my buddy Jack Hoff tho ... :D His mom was either naive or malacious ... probably the former.;)

There are examples of positive parenting out there ... here's one:

Sweet, not to mention amazing, 16 | Local | News | The Kingston Whig-Standard

I just tossed it into this thread 'cause it's vaguely on topic ... and it's pleasant to read of what love of family and a strong work ethic can accomplish.

Both could pass for "real" names, and for either sex too. Very attractive in themselves.

Of course, if you had the 4 cylinder model - could have used "Squariel" which would then suggest you had a big one - motorbike that is;):D
