Killer wasps on canal
 

OK so they probably weren`t KILLER wasps ( well I hope not ), but they were very angry, attacked me and the dogs, don`t know if the dogs got stung but I did, about seven times.
The dogs seemed to think they had done something wrong, tail between there legs while I`m jumping around like a nutter throwing my tops off me as quick as I could and legging it from these demented wasps.
I left it a few minutes and tried to get my clothes back as quick as I could and the dogs saw there chance and did one.
Anyway, if you are going on the canal, beware, there must be a nest around there (between express gifts and the dunkenhalgh way bridge), now bring on the jokes but if you know any miracle cure for wasp stings, feel free to throw them in as well (tried TCP and vinegar so far).

Thanks Cashman, read that already, that`s where I got the vinegar tip from. I think i`m in for an uncomfortable night.:(

Maybe something had riled them, someone disturbed their nest or something shortly before you walked there?

Pretty scary though-in my experience despite their bad press wasps don't tend to just decide to sting unless something has wound them up, intentionally or otherwise!

Sorry that happened though.

I used to be TERRIFIED of wasps when I was younger. Up until a few years ago actually. I'm not keen on them even now but I'd never harm one and the only time I have ever been stang was in my sleep at a festival not so long ago. Had this swelling on the back of my neck and at the first aid tent was told it was a wasp sting. Suppose it may not have been.

I love bees-even as a kid I used to watch them and try to touch them and stuff but for some reason wasps, not a chance I'd not run away from them!

Thanks, been trying that as well, pressing cold cans on to the more painful ones (while emptying them for a bit of extra pain relief).:)

The dogs were looking for their ball, I think it may have been them that disturbed a nest. Don`t remember ever being stung before, the vinegar seems to have eased some of them, lower back is sore and got stung three times around my arm pit, that smarts a bit.

That's probably most likely! Wasp stings one at a time are just irritating but being attacked must be quite scary.

I am just back from Bloodstock. Wasps were in their plenty, there but I think they were encouraged by the amount of rubbish people were generating :/

Got some very funny looks jumping around in the rain with no top on. Then when dogs ran off had to chase after them across dill hall lane (still no top). Eventually went back to collect the clothes I`d chucked and was at least able to explain myself to one guy who had seen me.

I used to live in Preston down by the river when I was about 10 we used to cut the hedges and wheelbarrow the clippings down to the river .
I once took a barrow load down and must have run over a wasp nest all I could see was wasps clinging to my jeans I ended up in hospital with 127 wasp stings to my legs
I am still very nervous around wasps:(

Aloe Vera - brilliant for taking away pain, especially burns, etc. I just checked on the Internet and it IS good for wasp stings also. Apparently lemons are also good for healing wasp stings, but I think that you should have used this treatment straight away, probably a bit late now. Hope you find some comfort soon.

I was always taught vinegar for wasp stings.....and it does work.
Hope you are alright. Wasps do not need to be provoked to sting.

Dogs are fine Dotti, thanks. I did use vinegar Margaret, according to the link Cashman posted, any mild acid will neutralise the poison in the sting so lemon juice will probably work as well. Stings are a bit hot and itchy this morning but I can live with that. My few stings are nothing compared to Micks 127, although he did miss his chance at a waspital joke.:)

Quite possible they were inebriated from eating fermenting fruit. Always found that hot followed by cold compresses have helped, but as soon as possible after the sting.
