Re: 3 bloody episodes of corrie?!

i'd rather go to asda and stand in the hygeine aisle and look at the soaps there...

i mean fair enough its meant to b a dramatic episode etc but 3?! surely u'd get more suspense if u drag it across a week instead of peakin in a day?

Is that rubbish still on t.v. then? Thank God I am no longer forced to watch this dross, there's alot to be grateful for no longer having to share the telly with a soap lover.

Horrornation Street ... somethings ya just don't miss. Does each character have to say 'hotpot' at least once an episode?

Maybe a should apologise ahead at this point .....

Re: 3 bloody episodes of corrie?!

I did not watch last nights amateur dramatics. I am getting a bit fed up with Soaps, Coronation Street in particular. They and the people in them take themselves far too seriously for it to be enjoyable. When I watch a soap I want a laugh, a bit of salacious gossip and a bit of a bitch fest. I don't want some half-arsed attempt at gritty social realism. Soaps are "bad taste". and the only thing that makes bad taste palatable is going "over the top" with it. A prime example in the field was the American series "Dynasty", which was so far "over the top" it became ART!

What soap isn't about, is real people living real lives. God knows we get enough of that everyday of the week. What happened to the studied nastiness of Ena Sharples or the fragile pretensions of Annie Walker?

And don't get me started on Eastenders or we will be here all day.

You for got Albert Tatlock A-b. Nobody could mutter as incoherently as Uncle Albert. And what about Leonard Swindley and the Glad Tidings Mission? Ah them were't'good old days.

Acrylic-bob 23-11-2004 07:08

Re: 3 bloody episodes of corrie?!

Exactly. And Hilda Ogden, a figure of fun and ridicule and yet there was not a dry eye in the country when she lost Stan. True pathos brought out of bathos. And weren't we shocked to watch Ena Sharples and Elsie Tanner scrapping in the street?

It strikes me that the current crop of soap celebrities, especially the younger ones, are very good at only one thing - playing themselves.

mani 23-11-2004 14:09

Re: 3 bloody episodes of corrie?!

all these kids in corrie they're story lines are as follows

boy girl start dating. new boy comes and impresses girl. girl is tempted and decides to go on a date. at this point things get heated and we see a bit of nookie. at this point the girl either decides to go all the way and ends up having his baby or backs out and goes back to original boy with no guilt and if anything happiness that she's made the rite choice despite a nookie.

boy1 boy 2 meet. boy 1 is gay boy2 isnt. boy1 hits on boy2. boy2 gets angry. boy1 apologises and then bad mouths him to everyone that he is gay.

girl girl meet neither are lesbians yet one drunken night... and then girl1 gets curious whilst girl2 doesnt care. girl1 gets upset and in a climax fight tells everyone at the pub that they kissed etc. next day no one remembers and carries on as normal.

Uncle Albert would have had plenty to mutter about there. Not to mention the speeches Ena would have made to Minnie and Martha in the snug.

and a week later her (previously unmentioned) teenage daughter appears from Brighton

All the soaps are the same - you see one for about 6 months and you've seen them all. I used to watch EE, but got bored.

The only things I watch now on a regular basis are Spooks, Hustle and Formula 1 (when they're on, of course), plus the odd film

Charlie is the local builder, who is currently shacked up with Shelley. He ran into the corner shop with Ciaran to save the couple from the explosion.

Re: 3 bloody episodes of corrie?!

What is it about soaps that attract people?

They are not real life. They will not affect your life if you don't watch it - ie you will not die, and your children will not die, and your partner will not die.

You are more likely to be afflicted with some deadly disease from watching too much tv, instead of getting out and doing something constructive.

If you want entertainment, I am sure you will find plenty at the Arndale Centre!!!

Re: 3 bloody episodes of corrie?!

These script writers are so formulaic. They should show a little more imagination and start 'thinking outside of the box'...

Why couldn't this bunny-boiling trollop called Maya be a nuclear physics research student from UMIST? Then her best endeavours could have wiped Coronation Street off the map, and the Tv schedules.

That would be cause for party-hats & streamers, Jelly & custard. :wave8:

It's been on for 40 years they must be doing somethig right.

vorlon24 25-11-2004 14:24

Re: 3 bloody episodes of corrie?!

No it's not that.

ITV need something to put in their schedules, and that is the best they could come up with.

Sad, really

Why can’t we have it just once a bl***y week.

Lol!!!! I have to protest at that assumption Staggers. I can quite categorically state that I have never shed a tear at Lassie, The Waltons, Little House and Black beauty. Even Old Yeller failed to do it for me.:D I do recall once blubbing at an advert, but can't remember which one, and I can always be counted on to do a Niagara Falls impersonation at a stage musical, bawled like a baby during Phantom of the Opera...:)

And I expect it will be English in the cinemas (due for release early December)

I can safely say that in spite of watching the incredible store burning episodes I have managed not to become hooked.

I can quite easily live without the soaps. Maybe the short burst of things like "Celeb" are more appealing because I know they won't hook me on a permanent basis.
