Public Sector Strike !!! Bins !!!
Brill thats my bin not emptied for a month, should make them do overtime to catch up not make people wait another 2 weeks !!! Its a joke with it being once a fortnight in the first place.

Re: Public Sector Strike !!! Bins !!!
Mine was emptied today, also a fortnight since, so hows they on strike shurm?
|
Re: Public Sector Strike !!! Bins !!!
I think hes talking about this BBC News - Firefighters to join one-day public sector strike
but I had a nosy on Hyndburn councils website and it didn't have anything on about it so don't know if it will affect the bins ... |

on the once a fortnight thing a lot of councils ie : blackburn with darwen to put one closer to home reverted to weekly collections but on the flip side they charge to remove any rubbish you have like sofas , beds etc where as our council do it for free - (eventually) if the binmen feel they are getting screwed then they have the tool of strike to use and their employers can end strike action by been more fair |
Re: Public Sector Strike !!! Bins !!!
It's a one day strike this Thursday, not just the them I think it's council workers, had a leaflet through the door saying no collections Thursday.
|
Re: Public Sector Strike !!! Bins !!!
Yea, i got the leaflet too - not as bad for us as this week is our recycling bags/box so can cope with that but if it had been the bins think I'd have been spitting feathers too Shurm
|
Re: Public Sector Strike !!! Bins !!!
Yeah could have been worse but with having a couple of babies we've millions of plastic milk containers it's ok I'm going to drive round tonight and find out where is the collection is tomorrow :D

Is it all bin collections that are affected? It is our black bin week tomorrow and there haven't been any leaflets in our area

Industrial Action - 20 July 2014
It looks to me from this if you have a recycling collection tomorrow (Thursday) that is cancelled and you will have to wait until the next due date. One day only affected. |
Re: Public Sector Strike !!! Bins !!!
NO grey bins collected till 24 july in BAXENDEN on HBC web site

Four weeks between collection of recyclables we could cope with, but 4 weeks for the black (grey) bins is ridiculous ours is 3/4 or so full now. A direct question for Mr Moss or Mr Jones - what do you recommend regarding the overflow of bins? I won't be holding my breath but one never knows when a surprise can disprove the normal situation. |
Re: Public Sector Strike !!! Bins !!!
How are the Council supposed to notify you when they don't know until the day how many workers will actually turn up for work? Some will have informed them they were striking, others didn't.
If you want to know about refuse you would be better off emailing Councillor Paul Cox the portfolio holder for Environmental Services. Here is a link to his page for contact details Councillors - Paul Cox He probably wont reply today, he is doing a charity bike ride from Liverpool to Leeds. If you're quick you might catch him up, he just past Burnley according to his recent tweet. |

Yet these people are some of the first to complain that the bin has not been emptied, yet do naff all to support the recycling system. It is only a bin full of rubbish, are we so dependant on the council to do everything for us that a missed collection tips us over the edge. |

Re: Public Sector Strike !!! Bins !!!
I think you are right Neil.
We have been recycling for as long as I can remember. We rarely throw food away(I recycle leftovers and they turn up in some other guise). Our free bin capacity is offered to families(with a few children) who live near us and find their bin is not big enough to take all their refuse...but we insist that nothing that is suitable for recycling is put into our bin...and we check before the bin goes to the collection point. I'm sure that those families who have babies still in nappies will find it difficult to cope with bin collections that might be four weeks apart ( due to the industrial action)...and in this warm weather the bins are going to get very smelly and attract bluebottles. |

Re: Public Sector Strike !!! Bins !!!
I am not getting at your reasoning Dave. Just pointing out that some bins really do need to be emptied on a more frequent than 4 weekly basis.(Ok, so this industrial action is not going to happen every week)
Bury are bringing in refuse collection of household waste on a three weekly basis......so if they are doing this, then other councils will be thinking about watching how it goes in Bury and this may become the norm. It is then only a short stretch to monthly collections. Perhaps we (as a household of just two adults) would cope with this....but others who have different circumstances may not. |
Re: Public Sector Strike !!! Bins !!!
Maybe it's us the public should be taking out action against the poor services we receive.
After the last recycling collection I had to clean up a couple of broken bottles left behind by the recycling collectors. Plastic bottles and paper flying around in the wind is one thing but broken bottles that could injure people, animals, car tyres etc is a different matter and just lazy and irresponsible by the Council |

i once complained to HBC about the mess left on my lawn all of which was not my rubbish by the recycling collectors and was told that they cant clean it up because it breeches health and safety rules for them to come onto my property well i suppose the postman, piza delivery folk ,repair men , i call when needed and anyone else who needs to knock upon my door better think up of a new stratergy for gaining my attention if they dont want to be breaking health and safety regualtions they also like to leave peoples wheelie bins in the road causing traffic hazzards but thats a bit off topic |
Re: Public Sector Strike !!! Bins !!!
We were told on the Monday with a leaflet that the recycling wouldn't be collected along with the green bin which is full with grass and hedge cuttings. I feel sorry though for Baxenden folk whose grey bin isn't being emptied ours is always full in 2 weeks which two lots of nappies ( a dozen a day !!) and just household rubbish and we do recycle bottles plastics paper tins etc.
They should really do overtime to catch up and that might help them with the pay they lost with striking ? |

The idea of going on strike is withdrawal of labour to show their bosses the discontent. This if it is successful will create inconvenience for someone, it just so happens they picked on you, no-one else just you. Knowing you would shout louder than a spoilt child that has had it's lollipop stolen. As for overtime they might do some, but you can't force them to do it, so, if your bin remains smelly for an extra fortnight maybe even you will consider, A/ how useful binmen really are. 2/ what you should put in which bin to prevent overfill of the bin and the land. ;) |
Re: Public Sector Strike !!! Bins !!!
I do understand thanks I also understand they will remain unpaid for their actions it would suit everyone to get their bins emptied and them some money. The strike wasn't about bin men it was about pay and pensions for people in that union, bin men being some of them. I've no problems with bin men I have never said anything bad about them and I do recycle thanks just having a moan about the bins not being emptied :D

Re: Public Sector Strike !!! Bins !!!
i cant pay council tax on health and safety grounds
ii wonder if they will take that as an acceptable reason for not giving them any money ? |
Re: Public Sector Strike !!! Bins !!!
I don't have a problem with the two week collections, and even if it happens that it's once every four weeks from time to time we can usually cope with it, but this week some ******* has chucked their overflow into our bin, grrrr!😬

thats how i think it works iv seen the guy they send out doing it before it may seem a bit narky or sulky to do it but if your bags dont fit in its you who gets done or dosnt get tehir rubbish removed if you have to leave it at teh side of your bin |

I do object to them taking my bin using it leaving me without, then when I finally get it back find the inside covered with left over remains of nappies & other disgusting remains. |
