Boots - Problem
The whole frontage of Boots was taped off with Police Incident Tape this afternoon - anyone have any knowledge of what was going on?
|
Re: Boots - Problem
The council asked the police to tape it off. Apparently there is some loose masonry on Boots

Re: Boots - Problem
So now the town centre is falling down as well! Will it never end?

Re: Boots - Problem
It's good to know the council can get the police to fulfil a role. You never know they may be catching criminals soon :)

Re: Boots - Problem
The facing tiles at the top of the apex are lifting off so the whole frontage of Boots is fenced off - prescription are available at the rear of the store.

That 'crack' from the centre window to above the right hand window looks interesting as well. Obviously the motar has failed but it looks as if there is some displacement as well. Looks like the place is falling apart - better have a word with the guys who built Rome's colliseum their motar seems to be passing the test of time. |
Re: Boots - Problem
I reported that problem 8 years ago when I was store manager there. Those windows are in the staffroom and were leaking in badly way back then. If they haven't acted on the very obvious problem in all that time it's no wonder they now have a structural issue like that. The water was coming into the building from above the windows, I would suggest the roof has failed and the rain has got into the brickwork, frozen, expanded and then thawed.

The stains on the brickwork, the apex bricks moving and the crack shows how bad the problem is. |
Re: Boots - Problem
The signs that were up today said 'business as usual'

That's good news. Is there another entrance or have they put some sort of safety structure up? |

Reckon it's not too bad, all the facing bricks will need to come off and be reinstated. After the roof and cavity is made weatherproof as per Lindsay's post. |
Re: Boots - Problem
From what I was told last night they are using the rear door, which is down the ginnel inbetween that building and what was the phone shop, basically through the loading area and in the goods door! I'd have my doubts about that if it was me as that door is the fire exit also.Glad its not my responsibility.

Re: Boots - Problem

I just hope that post box got emptied before the scaffolding went up around it

Re: Boots - Problem
They are using the back entrance. When I passed on Thursday there was a Boots employee asking people if they wanted to use Boots and pointing down the ginnel. There were also posters with arrows pointing down the ginnel.
