Disabled parking warning
We thought with the nice weather we would have a trip to Skipton today. We have not been since sometime before Christmas as weather has not been fit. We parked where we always park in a disabled bay and duly displayed the Blue Badge on the dashboard. We came back 2 and half hours later to find a parking ticket for £50 on the windscreen. Apparently disabled drivers have to pay since January. So if any of you have a Blue badge or take relatives who have one you have been warned you still need to pay for a ticket in Skipton.

Re: Disabled parking warning
Try appealing nowt to lose, although My experience with Accrington arndale when i moved back from Spain, and genuinely had forgot you had to display a disc, just remembered it was free parking, i was done for parking in a free parking place made no difference, but at least i got to tell em what i thought of em.

Re: Disabled parking warning
Yeh I once got done in Nelson. Thats free parking but forgot the disc. I think it should be made clearer but I suppose they catch a lot of the disabled drivers out so they will not want to loose the money they are making. There was a traffic warden not far from the car when we got out. Cheeky b....... could have shouted and said we needed a ticket but I suppose she is on commission. bet she put the fine on the windscreen soon as we got round the corner.

Re: Disabled parking warning
It's always worth checking the board close to a pay machine, some councils which make one pay give a bonus time such as an additional half hour parking or even double the time for the same charge.
|
Re: Disabled parking warning
I parked in the disabled bay outside the town hall for less than ten minutes while I took some of my late wife's clothes into the Heart foundation charity shop.
I got a parking ticket because my disc was three days out of date. I paid up because I knew it was useless appealing. A few weeks ago I parked in the same bay while I did a two hour shift in the Welfare for the blind shop in Arndale. I didn't get a ticket even though I'd forgotten to display my blue badge. |
Re: Disabled parking warning
Yes davidf I went to look before we left. At the bottom it did say disabled drivers got an extra hour for payments but I thought that meant on top of the 3 hours free that normally apply with a badge. I think when a place has had free parking for years they should have put up notices that could not be missed. At this rate there is going to be no advantage at all having a Blue badge. On reading the summons I saw that if the fine was paid within 14 days the fine was reduced by 50% so I got a cheque off for £25 because knowing my luck if I tried disputing it the 14 days would go by and I would end up paying the full amount. We will put it down to experience and make sure we read the board by the pay meter in future.

Re: Disabled parking warning
If you appeal the PCN your case goes on hold until a decision is made.

or has it changed now ? |
Re: Disabled parking warning
No, you still pay the 'reduced' rate as long as you pay within 14 days of the date of the decision.

Re: Disabled parking warning
I thought I would loose that option thats why I paid the lower rate.

I have never displayed a disc, and never been done. Don't have a blue badge, either... |

Re: Disabled parking warning
I thought Accrington had done away with the disc parking. Nelson still have theirs and tickets are still given for not displaying a disc.

Re: Disabled parking warning
You need to check out Accrington Arndale's new parking rules - since mid March2016, I think it was when the new rules came in. You cannot park for more than 3 hours, or you get fined. You are NOT allowed to return to the car park within 90 mins. You get fined also if your car is NOT lined up correctly in the parking area (its not lines though, its those little corner markings, so beware). Whether this rule applies to a disabled vehicle, I am afraid I am not sure.

I took photos of all the signs they've put up in the arndale ... :D by the way if you get caught .. a letter is sent thro the post you get it a couple of week later .. and if you pay up within 14 days its £60 ... otherwise its over a hundred quid

Re: Disabled parking warning
I rarely use the place, now I won't use it at all. Well done the council. Soon be a Ghost Town.
|
Re: Disabled parking warning
I suppose with all the shops closing no one will need to stay more than 3 hours.
|
Re: Disabled parking warning
I have noticed during the last couple of weeks or so that there seems to be far more empty spaces than there used to be. Perhaps the shop staff aren't parking on the lower floors anymore. Still no indication as to who can park on the two basement levels.

Re: Disabled parking warning
The B&M staff certainly wont be parking there within a few weeks.

Re: Disabled parking warning
I just wanted to confirm they are frying anyone at the moment who's tyre is over the white of yellow disabled line in the Accrington Arndale Centre car park.
My disabled better half had a one tyre 1" onto the yellow disabled line and received a ticket. Pay £60 within 14 days or £100. Having lived in Accrington for many decades and shopped in the Arndale Centre using the parking facilities this is the last time and has certainly left a sour taste. I was myself beginning to wonder why the Arndale was looking so devoid of shoppers let alone shops, I feel now we have found the answer as the love of it is certainly being lost. It does beg the question what are the council doing, £100 come on? |
Re: Disabled parking warning
i know of others who have been done for the same thing.:(
|
Re: Disabled parking warning
me too.
|
Re: Disabled parking warning
From what i was told its not the council who owns it?? though i was sure they used too??
|
Re: Disabled parking warning
I park on the Arndale if I need to go in WH Smith or O2, if just going on the market then I park on Dutton St or on Peel St. If I do park on the Arndale I check that I am clear of the lines, easy enough to do, you don't even have to get out of the car.
|
Re: Disabled parking warning
Good heavens. They even worse than Skipton. The fines are certainly steeper. Looks like because not as many folk are using the car park they have thought this line thing up to make up the deficit. Disgraceful.
|
Re: Disabled parking warning
I know a couple of people that have stopped visiting accy arndale simply cos of the ridiculous fines for a matter of inches, one person i know had no choice cos of the car parked very badly beside her, she got done told them, but the badly parked car had obviously gone before the warden came round, so as far as they were concerned, she was a liar.

Re: Disabled parking warning
The parking in Arndale is now under the control of a private company.
Staff working there, or any body who needs to park for over three hours must pay £40 a month and park on the higher floors. I am a volunteer at the Accrington and District Blind society in the Arndale and we got a letter from the parking people. I usually do two hours on Mondays so I'm OK but every week or two I do a full Saturday shift so I find it easier to catch the bus and walk across from the new bus station. I went to my car one day and a man was parked in a disabled parking bay wih his blue badge on display. He had a parking fine on his windscreenand he was arguing like mad with the warden saying he had only been half an hour. The warden pointed out the blue badge was four days out of date, cost £65. No compassion whatsoever. |
