Black Friday?
I keep getting E-Mails about this! I watched summat on TV the other day, saying that much of the stuff advertised for sale on Black Friday had actually had the price INCREASED, Now i have NEVER been one of these suckers that rush out and buy bargains on this or any day, but i know many that fall fer this crap.

Re: Black Friday?
Personally, I don't like Black Friday. It's too much of an American thing; and it's fine for them 'cause they don't do Boxing Day. It's just one too many days where folks go and spend money they don't have. We're gonna have it here. But that's kind of understandable. We are so close to the border that cross-border shopping is a problem for our local retailers. And if shoppers are going to waste brass they might as well do it in their home town.

Done is a few times but have always checked $$ before thou

Re: Black Friday?
Nope, don't do Black Friday.
I am always a bit suspicious about such deals and will check to see if what I am looking for is better value elsewhere. I can't say I have ever bought anything just because it was cheap...or on offer. I would only buy if it was something I needed or wanted to have. |

I have missed out on many a bargain because at that moment I just didn't need it. So did I miss out? I still had my money to buy some other bargain that was just around the corner that was most useful. By most useful I mean, a bit of emergency cash so that if my washing machine for example went tits up, I would have the cash to search for a bargain. It's only a bargain if it replaces something useful/needed/wanted at a price lower than the prices offered for similar products on the high street. These days we don't have a high street, but we do have Google 365/24/7 if you can't find a bargain you haven't switched your computer on. |
Re: Black Friday?
Black Friday has been banished in the U.K. Look at amazon they're are doing 12 days instead. I'm all for a bargain but not at this time of year, everything is inflated price wise
|
Re: Black Friday?
Lets face it, all that gets reduced to a bargain is the overpriced crud that they cannot shift anyway, they put the price up beforehand so that they can bring it down tos till be more than it's worth anyway.
Then they actually only have a few in stock at a bargain price, the rest is still the overpriced junk. Don't need it, don't want it. I have fish & chips on a Friday instead :) |
Re: Black Friday?
Have you noticed the --reduced on selected items? Selected by who,I ask myself.Selected by them to shift items they can't shift at the inflated price

When's HAVE A PIE DAY? :-)
|
Re: Black Friday?
Every day is "have a pie day" :)

Re: Black Friday?
Black Friday, it's when americans buy things they don't actually need just because it's on sale. For me it's a waste of time and money. I only buy what I need

I thought it was something the Brussels Bullshting Cooperative were pushing to make us more fluffy bunny inclusive. ;)

It's like the rest of the Christmas bull, Xmas day used to be ONE day, then in the middle ages no doubt some entrepreneur (a fiddle player or someone with a bit of popularity on the recorder), invented 12 days of Christmas then went on & on & on. Advertising was invented gradually pushing the season nearer and nearer to July. Now we have black Friday, which started as one day, now added to Christmas and has gone on for at least a month. Maybe if folk didn't max their credit cards over this period they would have money to buy bargains the rest of the year? |
Re: Black Friday?
We wanted a large rug for the new house, never gave black friday a though.
Went into a store with no one apart from the saleman about. Got exactly what we needed and a nice 15% discount. |
Re: Black Friday?
Good luck, Gremlin. But you know what they say in certain parts of NYC?
Discount is like an overcoat, you have it to put it on before you can take it off. |

I know from the family business how much goes on and if people don't ask you make a few quid more. |
Re: Black Friday?
So Russell, you got the discount on something you wanted...you did not go out with no idea of what you wanted, with money you didn't have, to buy something you neither needed nor wanted.
Black Fridays is one of the worst of American traditions we seem to adopt. It was conceived to extract money from those unwary souls who think that retailers have their interests at heart. Really, they don't have hearts, they have cash registers...or to bring things up to date, card readers. |
Re: Black Friday?
For those of us reaching that certain age you get to a point where you need to buy less for the home so Black Friday is a bit useless for us unless you like filling your wardrobe perhaps?
All these USA inflicted days smear our history at least for me, I would rather have more even pricing throughout the year than said special days. The next PIE DAY is 23rd January by the way :-) |
Re: Black Friday?
Didn't see any good deals (in store) offered my friend thought she had got a good deal turned out to be £150 more than Argos.
I'm suspicious of it myself. Seems like a method of getting rid of stock. However there was some good PC game digital download deals I saw but I owned one since release and the other is crap. :D Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk |

I never go in a shop wondering what to buy or to look for a bargain. I only shop for what I NEED!! It just happened to be Black Friday the day after we got the keys to the new house and a rug was needed for the lounge floor which is hard wood like the dining room. |

Re: Black Friday?
Dear, oh dear, oh dear, yep it's going to be an expensive Boxing day for some, all the furniture shops and fitted kitchen places are on the box advertising their 9.00 start for the sales.
I'm so glad that I will be spending Boxing day the way it should be, having a nice long lie in, recovering from all the overindulging of Christmas Day. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...d7b21a2b05.jpg |
Re: Black Friday?
It seems to me some folk shop EVERY day. For what I cannot imagine. Nowadays the shops are only closed for Christmas Day. Years ago depending on when Christmas fell they may be closed for 4 days i.e. if Christmas Day was Saturday, Boxing Day Sunday they would not open again till Wednesday. Those days no one had a fridge but they managed.
I put it down to bad home management. Some items are bought because they are advertised as a bargain whether they are needed or not. Stupid. |
Re: Black Friday?
Rowlf the stupidity is because folks can see better than they can think.
Do you think the newly weds of today will make a meal from leftovers? They will chuck it in the bin and order a takeaway(or even another takeaway). I learned home management the practical way....this was, we had no money and so we had to make do with what was in the cupboard(often a tin without a label from Sauls bargain basket...you didn't know whether you were getting custard or tinned peas). |
Re: Black Friday?
Me, too, Margaret. Also learnt that if you can't have it then don't pine for it - that's a waste of time, and if you can't afford it then too bad. Enjoy what you can afford.

Re: Black Friday?
That is my mantra too Dotti.
It has served me well throughout my life. I do not look at what others may have and feel envious.(well, maybe sometimes....just a little), that is the path to dissatisfaction and sometimes debt. In the main, I have been happy to settle for what I can afford. The only real debt I was forced into was a mortgage, but that was paid up more than three decades ago. If you can't pay, you can't go. Simple. |
