Winter wonderland n Accy

Well its snowing!!! Doesn't that make it feel xmassy n bloody cold lol, was going to venture to town but decided due to the weather i'd stop in where its nice n warm n hope the snow goes away by tomoz.:)

Acrylic-bob 20-12-2004 11:52

Re: Winter wonderland n Accy

I agree wholeheartedly. It is far too cold for any sane person to be out and about. According to the forecast the weather is set to pick up in the second half of the day and become a little milder. However, it set to become colder towards the weekend and there is even talk of more snow to come. A white Christmas is becoming a possibility. How nice.

You know, I am sure I could do this weather presenting lark just as well as Micheal Fish and probably a damn sight better than that Diane Oxbury.

accymel 20-12-2004 11:56

Re: Winter wonderland n Accy

Pmsl Acrylic-Bob so true, mind u Micheal Fish got it wrong forcasting no hurricane mmmmmm LOL. I just hope it holds off till xmas then i can get my last bits done as im going no where really over xmas so my kids will be chuffed.

here in Pennsylvania it's a lovely 5F. Don't know what that is Celsius. Just as cold, no doubt.

Acrylic-bob 20-12-2004 12:09

Re: Winter wonderland n Accy

Five degrees farenheit?????? According to my thermometer that puts the temeperature at minus 15 degrees centigrade! OMG that is cold!

accymel 20-12-2004 12:13

Re: Winter wonderland n Accy

Gee Pat that is cold!!! n i was moaning about it being cold here godknows the temp it is here at the mo, i thought the US was a warm place :)

Acrylic-bob 20-12-2004 12:16

Re: Winter wonderland n Accy

Actually I just checked the forecasts for the USA and 5F /-15 C. is about right for Allentown, Penn., but Bradford, Penn., is even colder at -9F / -23C. Wrap up warm Pat and make sure you have plenty of wood for the fire.

pat 20-12-2004 12:17

Re: Winter wonderland n Accy

yes, with a delightful breeze out of the N.W. at about 25MPH. A good day to stay right where I am.

Sara 20-12-2004 12:21

Re: Winter wonderland n Accy

Even though i absolutely adore snow and would love snow on Christmas day, in reality it would be very impractical. I have to do quite a bit of running around. I have to pick dad up then go to my sisters and also sometime in the morning or evening visit in-laws. So i hope it holds of until boxing day then we could have fun sledging or just enjoying looking at the snow whilst drinking a hot whiskey or drinking chocolate with brandy and baileys added to it.

Tealeaf 20-12-2004 12:27

Re: Winter wonderland n Accy

Well, the 5 day forecast is for it to get a bit warmer from now until thursday and then...snow on Christmas Eve....

lettie 20-12-2004 12:28

Re: Winter wonderland n Accy

I am working on Christmas day, doing the night shift. If it snows here in Accy, then it will be twice as bad up at Queens Park. Being on the hill it tends to be a bit wild weather-wise in comparison to here. I really do not want to be on the car park for half an hour trying to dig out the car. This happened to me after a night shift several years ago and when you've worked 11 1/2 hours all you want to do is get home uneventfully.:D

Acrylic-bob 20-12-2004 12:42

Re: Winter wonderland n Accy

I don't envy you one bit lettie, but I do admire you. I would not countenance working over Christmas for one nanosecond let alone working a night shift. I hope it will be a nice, quiet and easy night for you. Oh,and Merry Christmas!

If you're that concerned then you need to remember to take a shovel with you to dig yourself out.

lettie 20-12-2004 12:48

Re: Winter wonderland n Accy

I always take a shovel in the boot of the car in winter, and have actually had to use it. It's a real bummer having to dig out after nights though. I'm usually lucky to make it down the M65 without killing anyone. I'm so tired I can barely see where I'm going.
I have 6 days off over New Year though, so that's something to look forward to.:D

Acrylic-bob 20-12-2004 12:49

That's a bit sharp tea.

Tealeaf 20-12-2004 12:50

Re: Winter wonderland n Accy

OK then....if it snows heavy over New Year do you want to come round with your shovel and dig out my front path, seeing as you'll be doing nowt else?

Amen to that Sara, A nice blended whiskey and real drinking chocolate in the snow. Just to bring a little normality in to the picture. I can report that it's bloody cold up here on the coast and p****** down as always. Merry christmas.....:)

at noon is -8c.tonight the forecast is -15c.Cold but very dry.

Re: Winter wonderland n Accy

IT MUSTN'T SNOW HEAVILY UNTIL I GET THERE!!!

Any time after Christmas Eve, fine - until then, a light powdering only. Virgin Trains are bad enough in normal conditions - if it snows we will no doubt leave Euston at 9:45 (allegedly) on the morning of the 23rd and arrive some time the following Wednesday!

Once I am back in Lancs - it can cover the country 16 feet deep!

Happy Christmas everyone - let's hope it is a white one, for once.

Uncle Mick 20-12-2004 20:26

Re: Winter wonderland n Accy

Yeah, I would`nt mind a white christmas. I do quite a bit of travelling on the day itself, but it`s all on foot and I would`nt mind a trudge...just as long as I get some trifle at the end of it!!

Gobsmacked 20-12-2004 22:38

Re: Winter wonderland n Accy

It's been bitingly cold here today. The wind blowing icy water droplets in off the bay. We're further up the coast from you Doug but I think we get reasonably similar weather. The lanes were very bad one year when we had a heavy snowfall overnight. I do not enjoy attempting to negotiate them when boy tracers have been trying to turn them into bob sleigh tracks.

Roy 21-12-2004 07:33

Re: Winter wonderland n Accy

Well over here in germany its about -3-4 degrees c. We've had a little snow and it's almost impossible to get into my land rover in the morning! Whats this about hurricanes I read further up? I hope thats not right as I am on the Rotterdam - Hull ferry tonight! :)

If the winter wonderland comes to a real fruition, is there any chance of some photographs please? Especially of Bash in the snow. Just how I remember Christmas holidays.

I travelled through Rising Bridge yesterday on my way to Bury and you looked like you had a good blanket of snow.....Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

black_flights 21-12-2004 14:54

Re: Winter wonderland n Accy

really. My mums going to hate that. I spend very little time in rising bridge because my boyfriend lives in clayton. Well despite me not liking snow I could always help my 5 yr old neice build snowmen she'd love that.

There was enough snow yesterday to build a fair snowman......don't know what it's like today.....maybe it has gone.

probably as it did rain really hard last night. I haven't been out today so I wouldn't know. All this cold weather has given me a case of the sniffles. Or perhaps it was my boyfriends children, you know what kids ot like : )

I prefer the winters here in Florida now though. It's clear blue skies and about 66 F at the moment. Tomorrow is going to hit the low seventies. That'll do for me!;) :)

Quite right Margaret.."there's only 2 places for snow....On Xmas cards...and on teh top of mountains."

Unfortunately I live near the top of a mountain!

Re: Winter wonderland n Accy

Totally agree with you both about snow. I don't mind looking at it but I don't like experiencing it. I'd love some of that Florida sunshine but the nearest I'll get is a box of oranges and grapefruits a friend sends me every year. There's nothing in Accy can hold a candle to them.

Terry 23-12-2004 12:53

Re: Winter wonderland n Accy

I don't think I could stand the snow and cold anymore. I have just come through a lovely Winter of 20- 26 C and am now looking forward to temps in the 30's and the inevitable summer thunderstorms which are typical for a Queensland summer. I can't remember snow anymore. I only see it in pics. If anyone manages to get some pics though of Accy in the snow I would love to see them on here.:)

Re: Winter wonderland n Accy

My auntie is from australia and she send us christmas cards every year. They usually have pictures of glorious weather and christmas lights pinned up everywhere. Even though I don't particular like snow Christmas just doesn't seem Christmas without it.

lettie 23-12-2004 14:02

Re: Winter wonderland n Accy

I agree with that one. Last year my family in New Zealand gave me a Christmas card with a beach and a flowering Pohutakawa tree (NZ Christmas tree) in the picture. As beautiful as it looked with it's blazing red flowers, it didn't say Christmas to me..:)

Terry 23-12-2004 14:27

Re: Winter wonderland n Accy

Know exactly what you mean lettie. My first Christmas's in OZ were quite peculiar to say the least. The first one had a day 0f 112 F. I had to lie against the tiles in the bathroom to try and get a sensation of cool.:) It has taken quite a while believe me to get adjusted to hot Christmas's. I am quite used to it now of course and it seems quite normal. But even so our Xmas cards all seem to portray a white xmas. Funny that!:)

black_flights 23-12-2004 14:49

hehe. probably to remind you of what your missing or not (snow or sun hmm know which one I'd choose) Apparently my mum had a call from my auntie in australia today. And to tell the truth I think she did send a card with a snowy landscape on this year

Walking home from Ossy Christmas day, four o clock, the evening drawing in, snow falling heavily, kids throwing snowballs, building snowmen, all quite magical. Today I`ve been up the coppice and on the observation point overlooking Huncoat and the bypass, where there is usually graffiti, someone had written in the snow Look at the view! It made me smile.

Re: Winter wonderland n Accy

The M65 was hellish last night when I was driving to work. The gritter hadn't been on it and you couldn't see where the slip road ended and the motorway began as I was getting on it from Accy. Only one lane open. It was better this morning, the gritters were on it. Getting off the car park at work was horrid, it was like a skating rink and it took me 15 mins to scrape and warm up the car. It looks very nice does this snow, but it's horse work to drive in.

Well! i do wish this snow would disappear cause i wont take my two dogs out for a walk in fear of my falling and breaking summat, a few years ago i fell and fractured my big toe now i wont venture out with the dogs cause i know that i will end up on my arse. But before anyone reports me to the r.s.p.c.a. i do take them out back.Snow is a sight to behold as long as it is on a christmas card. lol
