Re: Community Leaders?

I really hope your petition strikes a chord with others in similar situations.
Then we would get a practical demonstration of which MP's are worth voting for.

It must be very unsettling to live in a hostile neighbourhood...one where there is no community spirit.
We have lived in the same house for fifty years, so we have seen a lot of changes, but invariably the folk who live in the street get along.
We did have a young man move in who was very aggressive and difficult to get along with.
He liked to prove what a big macho man he was by intimidating elderly residents.
Thank goodness he has now moved.

Most of the time it isn't hostile, most of my neighbors will acknowledge that I exist, but there are times when I go out I can't walk past a group of them without disdain being shown in some form for being in the area.

Less, that is the cruellest and most pernicious type of hostility.
It is like telling you that you do not belong in your own street...in your own town...that you have no validity.

That's yuman beans for you, not to worry most of the time I'm ready with a quick retort, not that I could repeat it on here.:D

that is akin to saying it doesn't matter...when clearly it does.

Of course it matters, thing is treat them as equals and they ****e all over you, (a bit like trusting an M.P.).

Will just have to do a tactical retreat, trouble is where?

Well the petition was rejected,
Quote:

We rejected the petition you created – “Remove the Undemocratic tier Of 'Community Leaders'”.

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Would it be worthwhile trying again?

This time telling them that a tier of unelected people that don't represent the whole of the community can't be called nor are 'Community Leaders' and therefore should not be given special treatment?

Re: Community Leaders?

Yes Less, of course it would be worth trying again...with a full description of what you would like to see happen it stands a better chance of getting up and running.

Re: Community Leaders?

Did they ever get back to you on the reasons the petition was rejected less?
You probably know how betting odds work, which do you think is favourite - - and which are the outsiders? I would suggest no.2 or no.7 are clear favourites maybe 2/1 on? whereas no's 13 or 18 are rank outsiders :o

Standards for petitions

We’ll only reject your petition if it’s:

1. similar to an existing petition
2. not clear what you're asking for
3. about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not responsible for
4. about something that’s the responsibility of a devolved body (eg the Scottish Parliament)
5. about a purely personal issue
6. confidential, libellous, false or defamatory
7. contains language that may cause offence, or is provocative or extreme in its views deceptive or misleading
8. advertising or spam
9. nonsensical, or a joke
10. party political
11. about honours or appointments – there’s a different way to nominate someone for an honour
12. breaks the law or violates intellectual property rights
13. covered by a court order, injunction or is about a case that’s active in the UK courts
14. potentially confidential, commercially sensitive or might cause someone distress or financial loss
15. names people working in public bodies (except for senior management)
16. names family members of elected officials or people working in public bodies
17. names someone who has been accused of a crime, or contains information that may identify them
18. a Freedom of Information (FOI) request – there’s a different way to make an FOI request

If we reject your petition, we’ll tell you why. If we can, we’ll suggest other ways you could raise your issue.

Re: Community Leaders?

Oops, sorry less, you HAVE stated the reason for rejection. Maybe we can go back to the list when the next petition is rejected?:)
