Dont judge a book by its cover!
You know people often say the youth of today does not amount too much. In reality that opinion is usually based on the sighting of large groups of track suited youths known as chavs who sit on street corners whiling their lives away. They actually form a small percentage of the youth of today but affect our opinion disproportionately. The reality is the youth of today are a credit to us and even the chavs can provide a use to society if given the right opportunities. Take this case in point.
The other weekend the good lady had spent the morning washing and waxing the car so we decided to follow that up with a drive out and a pub lunch. As a treat she also got to drive. Anyway we are on our way home and took a short cut. On a bend in the road sitting on some persons garden wall was a crowd of 12 to 15 track suited chavs of both sexes busy doing nothing. At this point as we approached the good lady went into a sneezing spasm and lost control of the vehicle. We mounted the curb and were heading straight for the garden wall which would have damaged the wall and scratched the car. Thankfully due to the presence of the chavs that was avoided as they acted as a good buffer between the car and the wall and as a bonus provided an extra buffing to the paintwork. The wife regained control of the car and off we went. The chavs must have been tired though because the good lady said most of them were now lying on the footpath. It just goes to show you should never judge a book by its cover! |

Re: Dont judge a book by its cover!
Maybe Cashy, like I said to me it's weird one - but suppose it takes all sorts to make the world go round :)

Re: Dont judge a book by its cover!
What I didn't quite grasp was....he let his wife drive....as a treat....a treat for who?:D(think this might be better in 'Anything Goes')

Re: Dont judge a book by its cover!

Don't give up the day job mate! As far as humour is concerned that's a pretty weak effort really 2/10 must try harder. :o

Re: Dont judge a book by its cover!
yes....but he DID give it a go.
And if I am honest, it is as good as some of the stuff that the 'alternative' comics(that's a laugh in itself - calling people like Jimmy Carr comics) churn out. Big Joe has only been here a little while....he can get better, but it needs a bit more practice. |

Re: Dont judge a book by its cover!
I was going to post it in the humour section but if I did people may have thought I was trying to be funny. And I do let the wife drive for two reasons. Firstly it gives her a warm fuzzy feeling that we share everything. Secondly now and again it worth letting her drive just to watch her do as she’s told when the sat nav gives her an instruction. Of course I change the voice to a mans beforehand. And on that note does anybody use Siri on their mobile. I have a lady Siri and to be honest it’s like being married again. “Siri what time does the Chinese open” Reply “ your not going out again are you”. Now that is a funny ( I think)

Re: Dont judge a book by its cover!
I can see your reasoning, but agree it really does not belong in the humour section, because to be in there it has to be funny...and it doesn't quite make it....sardonic, maybe...but funny?
Not quite Big Joe, not quite. That said, please don't let that put you off...keep on trying, one day you might get there. It might take a bit of dynamite or a jet propelled rocket, as I don't think steam will get you there(not enough coal on the planet). You get E..for effort....:D |

Re: Dont judge a book by its cover!
I no longer drive...but if I did I would not rely on a sat nav.
I would prefer to use maps, road signs and my own brain, rather than AI. My other half is useless at followingnthe instructions of a sat nav and on the odd times he has used it, the air in the car has been bluer than blue....and the voice is male! |
