Harry And Megs Big Day
Sadly I'm out of the country for their big event so I had to turn down the invite but have to say. The two lads are doing a good job and for me have put the monarchy back in touch with the people. Sadly I have been unable to make any of the weddings but as I did for William and Katherine I would like to wish Harry and Meghan all the best for their big day.
|
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
Couldn’t care less
|
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
Don't wish em any ill, but this rubbish is doing me head in.
|
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
Chaps where is the patriotism??? In the words of Shakespeare
"Follow your spirit and upon this charge cry God for Harry England and St George" |
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
Patriotism has sod all to do with someone getting wed, joe.
|
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
It's all the hoo ha surrounding the wedding that's doing my head in, fed up to the back teeth of hearing about it already - think I might go & sit on top of the coppice on Saturday till it's time for the cup final
|
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
Fed up with hearing about her Dad...Have to admit a bit iffy about Meghan
|
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
Like many other folk, I do not wish them ill, but it is not something I want to watch.
I will be trying to find somewhere that I will not be in contact with any TVs....so that I can miss out on all the media hype...For both things....the wedding and the cup final. I am so bored with it all. It matters not one jot to me. There is nothing unpatriotic in my feelings. They are not my kin....they are nothing to me. I just wish that they had sloped off somewhere private to tie the knot. They both want it to be low key, but it is anything but low key. I have my doubts about the match (Harry and Meghan)... I hope I am wrong. |
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
Really not interested at all, it's all the coverage that gets on my pips. There's any number of more important things going on in the world right now, but the bulk of news & MSM coverage is some mindless, irrelevant prattle about the wedding. The sooner it's done & dusted the better & then maybe we can get back to some form of normalcy.
|
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
Well, it has started already....and they don't get hitched until sometime tomorrow....I am not interested in who is going, what they will be eating, what the dress looks like or the 25 minute ride the pair will take around Windsor....just so that they can show themselves off.
I think my TV is going to be turned off for much of today....tomorrow I will go out and about. No TV on the top deck of the X2 from Preston. |
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
A DNA test is needed before we can call it a Royal wedding

I think Neil might be inferring that Harry is not the issue of Prince Charles....but the result of a casual mating between Lady Diana and that Hewitt chap.

Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
Webber’s I can safely say I have never been so alone on a subject. Although I respect everyone’s opinion I cannot agree with many sentiments. Harry is a Prince Of The Realm and Meg will at the very least be a Duchess and probably a Princess in her own right and as such will go on to represent our great nation. Good for her. Plus Harry top bloke two tours on active service doing his bit. Good job Harry. And while many share Cash’s view ref parentage Harry is the pop of relatives so im afraid we will have to disagree on that one Cash. At this point I feel I should belt out some Land Of Hope And Glory followed by all four verses of God Save The Queen ( not he Sex Pistols version) washed down with Jerusalem but only the wife would hear it. So as the decorator said to the prostitute your not flocking to watch it and when I talk about it I can gloss over the subject or just be Matt er of fact about it.

Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
I can understand how people have got cheesed-off with the paparazzi having wedding fever at the present time. Still Harry seems a likeable and genuinely decent bloke so all the best to them both. He’s doing his bit to help ‘The Family’ maintain a good image. Unfortunately he appears to be taking on a strange bunch of new rellies, all wanting to be heard and making the most of their five minutes of fame. Must be giving the Queen nightmares wondering what they are going to do/say next. Going back a few hundred years it would have been ‘off with their heads’ and no questions asked.
What I can’t understand though is why it is going to be such a huge affair as Harry is a few numbers down the track as far as being the next in line – and there’s time for more royal babies to be born which will push him still further back. The Queen has had other grandchildren get married on a much quieter scale if I’m not mistaken. Still it will be a happy occasion for many people and financially beneficial to some (a tad more than mine was). One thing that is for sure, as soon as the wedding is over the paparazzi will be looking for signs of a tummy bump. Who’d be a royal…… |
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
Dotti I take your point about other royals getting married but he is more high profile plus his dad will be king followed by his brother. As for the press looking for a bump they have already stated they plan to have a family early and apparently Harry has quit smoking cut down drinking and had hit the gym as a precursor to starting a family.

Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
No-one is saying Harry and Megan aint a decent couple, what i and i reckon many others especially most of our neighbours etc, is not interested, to me its only a big deal getting wed for the couple and families.and far as i'm concerned anyone who makes a big deal of it, is entitled too, at the same time they are a slice short of a loaf.:D
|
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
Only a few hours to go thankfully then the whole circus will be over & done with. I tried to read the "Papers" this morning but I gve it up after about 30 seconds of scrolling through the "Headlines". Royal wedding this, RW that, Megs & Harry, Harry & Megs, assorted hangers on & nonentities in RW fever ....... You get the picture?
When elsewhere in the world, there's true misery & despair, like this yesterday morning in Bayern Germany, just click through the heartbreaking pictures! :D https://www.tz.de/muenchen/region/bi...r-9883289.html Although I've no real interest in Harry & Megs going through the whole rigmarole & media hype of officialy getting their prod permit, I wish them both well despite my niggardlyness about the whole Hoo-Ha. ;) |
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
over?
As if!!! we will get repeats, discussions about this, that and then there will be the sneak peeks of them on honeymoon. I wonder if anyone will be filling their bed with cornflakes tonight? (or other similar wedding night pranks). lol |

Quite probably, but it will definitely be a damn site queiter about the RW hysteria, they might even show some relevant news again. |
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
Well I have to admit (and I do not apologise for it) that I will be watching the wedding with my Baileys in hand (I don't like champagne). One reason being that it seems to be the best thing on TV tonight (our time) and the other is simply that I want to watch it, although like most people I am a bit tired of all the hype that's been going on. But that's not the fault of the main players.
I appreciate what you say Dave about the misery and despair and I agree there are some awful happenings in a world that can be very dark for so many people but maybe it doesn't hurt to have some 'sunshine' now and then. At least it is a pleasant change from seeing those two blokes (who are so often on our screens) with the strange hairdo's that go about applauding themselves. |
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
Cheers! dears....and maybe another Baileys won't hurt.
|
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
Well I watched it and enjoyed it, as did many thousands of people who lined the streets - unbelievable how many were there. The bride was very elegant and the groom very smart - and I wish them well in their future. Mind you, I thought the American bishop went on far, far, too long, he got rather carried away with his address which turned almost into a sermon (I have to replenish my Baileys stock tomorrow).
|
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
I have avoided it....I just DO NOT CARE....and to be honest I don't get all the fuss.
I want to sleep through the next few, days because I have no doubt that the T V wallahs will be serving warmed over versions of the day for weeks to come...and in August when they announce a little version of them both....it will be served up again. Not interested, don't care, could not give a fig. They are nothing to me, I am nothing to them. |
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
Wife just came back to bed at 6a.m. She was up at 3 to watch the do. Now she can sleep in 'till 12 and I can watch the cup final in peace, so see the wedding did have a purpose.
|
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
Can't help but feel it'll all end in tears, hope I'm wrong but something just doesn't feel right
|
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
I know it sound curmudgeonly and pessimistic, but I feel the same.
I 'm with you Accymad. I am not a football fan at all but I was far more interested in the Cup Final than the wedding. |
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
well I am a royalist and just love our Queen. However the last few weeks have been rather brainwashing to say the least. I did watch the wedding ( from 11.15 ) and enjoyed it very much except for the American vicar that went on a bit. However , I am curious as to why they married in Windsor as Megan was divorced . If I remember rightly both Charles and Camilla married at the registry office, while Ann and Tim went to Scotland ( I think) as all were divorced ( except Tim ).The love Harry has for Megan just reflects from him , however Megan is an actress and I feel she may just have a trick up her sleeve, I truly hope I am wrong but this is how I feel . Good luck to them both and hope they have a long and happy life together, I really do.

Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
I have nothing against the Royal Family and I think the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have done a fantastic job.....they are the envy of the world.
I do not see them as scroungers(as some people might). I see them as an asset to the country....people travel across the globe to see them....and Royal events always generate business....that in itself is a good thing. All that said, this marriage(and I sincerely hope I am wrong) does not feel right to me. I can see that young man picking up the pieces of his life in the not too distant future.....I will go now before anyone calls me Septic Peg :) |
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
no argument from me, in fact have been saying that fer a few months now.

I normally enjoy my Sunday toast and marmalade reading through the paper...a nice leisurely start to my day.
Not today....there were 45 pages of stuff about the wedding yesterday. This is NOT news.....we had a plateful of this stuff yesterday....every possible angle was covered. What could be newsworthy about more of the same? So, I have had it with this event. No doubt there will be a similar level of cover in the dailies tomorrow...how long will this go on? |

Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
I don't read newspapers and I'm very selective about what I watch on television or listen to on the radio.
With that in mind you will understand that I didn't watch, read or hear much about the wedding on TV. Over the previous few months I have picked up snippets of information regarding the new princess and I totally agree with other's comments when they say the marriage is not going to last.. Something odd about the whole situation, No doubt she will be praying for a child as leverage over the Royal family but I just hope they have a solid prenuptial agreement in place. I love our Queen, and served her in the forces by the way and I think she is the most hard working woman in the UK who brings a lot of wealth into the Country. Nobody puts a show on like the British. |
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
We have a newspaper delivered daily....but I also read many of the online papers.
Today, though....haven't bothered. I am sick of the syrupy reporting. As for yesterday.....I took myself off on a bus ride...went out just after 9 and did not get back until after five....I walked miles so I was pooped. Did not watch any of the guff on TV(not a big TV fan at the best of times)....have avoided it today too. I just want it all to go down the plug hole. Maybe by Wednesday eh? |
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
I spent a few hours disembarking a cruise ship and driving down from Newcastle on Tyne and the only thing I heard on the radio were the traffic reports cutting in over my music which was playing through the speakers.
Then I transferred 800 photos from SD cards to PC before watching the cup final. Then my partner wanted to watch all the recording of Coronation street and Emmerdale which I had set up on the Vision box. By then I could feel the urge to watch the barmaid in the Club pour me a few jars of my favourite grog. I think it's called grog because after that I was groggy and my bed called, so orf I jolly well went and listened to Radio 4X comedy hour tucked up under the sheet. |
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
Sounds like you spent your day very well Russell.
I could have stayed in....the bathroom could have done with some attention....but the sun was shining.....I could have made a start on the pile of Father's Day cards I have promised to make(donations for which are going to be used to send a very special young man on a volunteering trip to Borneo....in 2020)...but the sun was shining and I haven't given my bus pass an outing for about 8 weeks. So off I skipped. No TV on the top deck of a bus....I enjoyed my day, spent very little(only because I did not see anything that took my fancy) and came back tired, hungry and ready for a good brew of tea. |
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
Well, the furore still has not died down.....a 32 page supplement in the middle of the paper....and a further fifty pages in the main body of the paper....plus some guff about Meghan Manifesto.....now forgive me, but I thought the royal family were meant to be above this sort of thing.....and before anyone tells me that it is not political....I know that.
It is easy to be involved in what she terms 'social justice' when you are wealthy and have a high profile. I hope that the powers that be (in the Royal circles) clip her wings a bit....or maybe a couple of babies might slow her down a bit.:) |
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
I did watch the ceremony on Saturday, thought her dress was really nice, the boy Michael Curry was just about the star turn, for all the wrong reasons.
Only in my opinion I thought the Queen was less than pleased. I am a Royalist, love the Queen and certain members of the Royal family, but not all. I honestly hope I am wrong, but I think Megan could be bad news. |
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
Nowt wrong wi being a Royalist, i aint but lifes all about choices.;)
|
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
Yes, hilleluk, that boy was really good but I also enjoyed the Gospel Choir - wish they'd sung a couple more. The mother-of-the-bride was very elegant and played her part beautifully - it must have been quite overwhelming for her but she did everything right.
NOW I'm over it - just wish the media were.... |

There are another half a dozen pages in today's paper...so it is getting a bit less I suppose. |
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
Well, I didn't watch it - no tv, I didn't read about it, don't get a newspaper and the only headline I saw about it was in the telegraph, a few days prior, as I was leaving Asda about there being no applications for street parties. (Saturday I was out bug hunting with my camera and Sunday I was in Bolton-by-Bowland, Settle and the Ribblehead Viaduct.)

Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
Well just logged in Sweden at the minute. Have to say I didn't realise there were so many members of the Oliver Cromwell Appreciation Society in the group, however opinions are like backsides, we all have one!!!
Picked up on a couple of sentiments ref success or failure of the marriage. Lets be right is that because he's a Prince and she a mixed race divorced American actress??? Because that really doesn't stand the test. Take Charles and Diana (all say ahhhh at the word Diana ) doomed to failure before it started because Charles loved someone else and Diana was rent a womb and as the good lady said if he had loved Camilla for all that time why didn't he just abdicate so he could marry her??? As for Harry and Meghan they stand as much chance as any newly wed so good luck to them and here a thought webbers what happens if they prove you all wrong????? MMM cream with that large slice of humble pie!!!!! |
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
Got more chance of being struck by Lightening Joe.:D
|
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
My feelings have nothing to do with any of the things you have cited BJ. It is just a 'gut feeling'....feminine intuition if you like.
I am not alone in this feeling. I have spoken to others....and not just those of my generation....some of them far younger than me. They have expressed similar views. This marriage does have exactly the same chance as any other, but when you look at the Royal family(apart from the Queen) they have not got a very favourable track record for relationships have they? I hope that it does succeed, because The Duke of Sussex has had more heartache in his young life than anyone should have to bear....he himself has made a remark that everything he touches turns to sand...the Duchess of Sussex is not just bi-racial and from another country, she has been an actress, used to playing roles(albeit, not very convincingly) she is not used to being constrained by the protocols that she is going to have to follow....the rules that she is going to have to conduct her Royal life by. Right now, it is new and novel, but I fear that she will bolt when the stark reality bites. She has done it before...and you can fall out of love far more easily than you can fall into it. As for the humble pie....I have no qualms about that. I will take it as it comes. On a closing note...I have great respect for the Queen, (she has been an asset to the country, she must be sorely disappointed in some of her offspring though)but I think some of the minor Royals could do with pruning back....they do not much for the monarchy. So not a supporter of the Oliver Cromwell Society. Not a supporter at all! |

Interesting observation Monkey about you getting stick at school because of your opinions. I think that was the norm in most schools. If I didn't get clattered for something it just wasn't a normal day and being at school meant that you told the relevant line or got clattered.
|
Re: Harry And Megs Big Day
agree joe. discipline might have gone down the drain at schools but they have improved where pupils are encouraged to have a mind of their own and not force fed facts for 5 years just to get your o levels. even playing to win schools football was not encouraged just having to loose the proper way was.
