Internal Monologues

I found out today that not everyone has an Internal Monologue, I thought everyone had one.

Ok, for those that don't know: "Also referred to as “internal dialogue,” “the voice inside your head,” or an “inner voice,” your internal monologue is the result of certain brain mechanisms that cause you to “hear” yourself talk in your head without actually speaking and forming sounds."

Do you have an inner monologue or not? (Ok so whilst I was writing this I was also thinking about how I would write it.)

Apparently people who don't have an internal monologue tend to think in abstract terms which causes them to verbalise those thoughts out loud.

Yes...I do have internal dialogue....and I talk to myself all the time.
Sometimes it is by way of a pep talk....like ‘chin up chuck.....you have got this’.....or it might be ‘what do I want to cook today for our tea’.
Sometimes when things go wrong it will be a simple...’well, that went well didn’t it?’

I also thought everyone had these little talks....after all sometimes you need an expert opinion....and no one knows you like you do!
Good to have you back Ryewolf...more please!

I certainly do have an internal dialogue, Ryewolf, talking to the little voice that is in my head - but I also verbalise with myself out loud, answer my own questions, and get annoyed with myself if I get it wrong. I also read books in the accent that the person has written them, just thought I'd throw that snippet in. Not sure what all this makes me but I actually find my conversations with myself quite interesting at times, and (dare I say it) reasonably intelligent - well some of the time....

Like Margaret, I am glad to see you back in the threads.

I’d hate anyone to think of me as schizophrenic...but I am dual natured...and so my two personalities have some very interesting dialogues....might even call the arguments at times...I will not worry too much unless my two halves come to blows....then I will see if there is a local mental health facility that will sort me out.

Yeah, them voices is powerful strong, especially on a Friday & Saturday evening, they keep telling me to go to the fridge for another "Cold one" or occasionally "A wee nippy sweety would be good!" :D

Re: Internal Monologues

Son...do you think it would be ok if we swapped voices for a while......mine usually tells me things like...’you know that donut will land with a bang on your hips’.....or another one is
‘Just because you’ve got a side salad doesn’t mean the chips are less fattening’....or do you know that you’ll have to wal ten miles to use up the calories in that custard cream’

I want to tell my negative commentator to ‘shut up and sit down as a slap in the mush hurts a bit’

I'd like to do similar, unfortunately that voice is more in touch with my feminine side, I can't get a word in edgeways!

:alright:

Thank you Son...will let you have it back in a little while....but so far it has just said......’meat and onion pie for tea...go on girl...have extra chips with that’
So I am liking it...really liking it....because it also told me not to bother taking the sheets off the bed or dusting...it told me to put my feet up......how good is that eh?

Not a quitter just lacking in stamina these days, anyhow I must be improving, at one stage I was too homophobic to admit I even had a feminine side!
