Safer Gambling Week?

Old news now it was last week, but I have been pondering it.

https://safergamblinguk.org/sgw

The main title is:-

Safer Gambling Week is a cross-industry initiative to promote safer gambling in the United Kingdom and Ireland

What? The very name 'gambling' means you are taking a risk the only way to be safer is not to take that risk in which case you aren't 'gambling'.

The human race thrives on 'risk' be it the odd flutter or jumping out of an aircraft with only a cloth canopy between you remaining you or becoming a red stain somewhere in the countryside.
The majority of parachutists do it safely and so do most 'gamblers' that enjoy a flutter, it's nanny state sticking it's nose in where it isn't wanted, again.
Where would Horse racing, dogs and so on be without the millions spent by responsible gamblers?
Yes, there are some that can't control their gambling but they aren't the majority, have a safety net to protect these unfortunates but don't ram it down everyone's throat every few minutes with these schemes.

Right, I'm off to the pub (alchoholaware) for a fag (smokingaware) and a Punt (gamblingaware), while I'm there It's been a while but i'll check out the condom machine just to be (fcukingaware).
:end:

I get a bit ticked off with the nanny state trying to point out the obvious dangers of some activities.
I wonder if it is not counter productive….you see the advert and think….’just for that I will go and back some three legged outsider…..and it wins(pays for a holiday in Rhyl).
With alcohol awareness……well that presses the anger buttons and you need three pints to calm down.
I have never smoked…..so that advice that it will kill me is wasted on me
I won’t dwell on the sexual health advice as that ship has sailed too.
I am more at risk from falling masonry, poison mushrooms(not really I hate mushrooms) or speeding traffic( Blackburn Rd in Clayton is like a formula one race track).

I'd say it's a safe bet that on this one, you'll definitely not be onto a winner! :D:D

would not be too bad if gambling was not in your face every day you go to the shops. betting shops abound as well as them who sponsor sport. doubt anyone starts off as a problem gambler but it will catch up on them. its an industry that needs controlling and it will be those who cannot afford to gamble being the ones who will lose the most. suppose its hard for someone like me who has never had a bet in my life to get into the mind of those that do. by the look of some of their faces in the arcades they just do not look as if they are enjoying themselves even on the odd occasion they win.

"When the fun STOPS, STOP"...that slogan has cost £1 billion in advertising...

The whole reason these addicts cannot stop is the fun went a long time ago. All addictions are managed, if it's not constantly in your face. But that's gotta be up to the consumer...

We all make mistakes, most learn and try a different solution.

in the amusement arcades we were meant to monitor regulars who put loads of money into bandits. we had in theory to gibe them a leaflet and then ban them if they continued with their actions. we ignored this as we did not grab em off the street to come in and our loss would be the gain of a competitor.

I use an app to put on my bets, so much more convenient than going down town to a bookies and mixing with the non smiling punters you mentioned earlier. But with that convenience comes what is temptation for others.
Although the site I use does give lip service to 'safer gambling' and caring about the punter just next door to the horse racing section there is a casino programme which I have no Interest in and yet at least twice a day my purveyor of 'safer gambling' offers me a minimum £10 to have a few free spins on there.
Why? because they want me hooked and spending more than I can afford a few spins of a roulette wheel would ruin my sometimes profitable little punts!

reading that less its sods law you will win the first time you did it. there is a strong held view by those who go to bingo that people always seem to win on their first visit. well i did but have rarely bothered since. i,m still up on bingo.

In a different thread but I think relevant to this one, I mentioned that the female experts of the racing where often a little high pitched, I've since noticed their voices taking on an extra tremble whenever the term 'and he has recently been gelded' is mentioned, It's something that happens quite a bit in racing, I'm just not sure if the Ladies emphasise it from a point of view, 'That should happen to all of that sex', or 'gosh I'm glad that couldn't happen to me!'.
:eek::confused:;)
