The worst phrase for 2021
 

We’ve already had the word of the year 2021 and now the Plain English Foundation in Sydney has decided on what was the worst phrase for 2021 here in Australia. I would offer a prize for the first person who can say what this phrase means (without cheating and looking it up) but the cost of postage is prohibitive so forget that. Here is the phrase…..‘Centres for National Resilience’…..and as there isn’t going to be a prize I will tell you that this simply means quarantine centres.

One of the other nominees for the dubious award was ‘national vaccination allocation horizons’ which in other words is a Government health phrase referring to dose distribution targets to each State.

Have to admit I had never heard either of these phrases, but they were used.

Now it’s over to you. Can you beat the above? Which phrase in 2021 got your goat, drove you up the wall, got your hackles up….

What a shame, it appears you have some overpaid and underworked civil servants trying their hardest to outdo each other in creating obscure and unhelpful titles for things that are important enough to be in plain English. No doubt, their bosses are to blame? After all someone, somewhere has to approve these things.

Perhaps you should take advantage of these people?

Less, from what I can gather I think both phrases actually came from our Federal Government - and you think you have problems…..

circuit breakers, firebreakers, lockdown, overwhelm the NHS may not be all phrases but have annoyed me no end during the year.
