The First Family Car

Our family did not possess a car until 1956. Post WWII and public transportation was convenient, affordable and frequent. Then my dad bought a 1936 Ford 10. That's right. 1936. Imagine that. I remember how many sleepless nights he had worrying about insurance premiums and keeping the old Ford running with parts from Skippers in Burnley. That old car spent many a weekend in pieces being cleaned, adjusted and reassembled.

I have since learned the expression "Town Car".
Go for a drive, by all means.
Just don't leave town.

Anyone else remember those thrilling days of yesteryear?

Re: The First Family Car

We had a red and black Morris 8….with running boards and those orange arms that poked out to show other motorists when you wanted to turn.
I think this would be around 1957. I do not know what year it was made.
It took us to Edisfkrd bridge many times….complete with jam jars and fishing nets.
There was a rope swing there and it was heaven for us to be able to play by the side of the stream.
Yes we did go further afield…St Anne’s, picking cockles.
It was a delight.
