Re: help I'm stuck
In what way has HBC's actions (or lack of) affected the price of your property?

It looks like Kate Ade has been to better places. When we complain about the state of the houses we get told no funds. Would HBC let a privately run company to let their housing stock get this way. I don't think so. |

on blackburn road the row of terraced houses near to where the church used to be is been done up for the 2nd time that i can remember the people in them tearraces keep letting the houses fall into bad shape and the council keep doing them up why do the same properties over again and why not give someone else a turn |
Re: help I'm stuck
That row of terraced houses doesn't belong to the council so I'm wondering if it's anything to do with Project Phoenix or the general grants and upgradings that were on the go when they did up whole batches such as Ormerod Street and Primrose Street and very kindly missed me out in between in Willows Lane!
Went down Bolton Avenue not long ago and I was surprised how awful it looks now. When I was at Peel Park a friend of mine used ot live on Ambleside Close and it all looked very nice in those days with the shops opposite and the little "rec". |
Re: help I'm stuck
the council give a lot of money out each year for people to do their houses up
i dont see why any privatly owned property should get a penny especialy as there are plenty of council tennants waiting months to get so much as a new pane of glass installed all i know is betwwen property developers and councilers you are going to struggle to find any honesty and good buisness sense |
Re: help I'm stuck
I believe the money used to bring the private properties up to an acceptable level for human habitation is earmarked as such from central government and cannot be used for any other purpose. There have always been assorted government grants available for various purposes. I remember in the 60s you could get a grant to put in a bathroom and indoor loo if you didn't have one.

I wouldn't mind a turn. I've never had one. :(

Re: help I'm stuck
I've caused quite a stir.
Good news is HBC are planning a cycle path up from town through Huncoat. I know they have had over 20 meeting about planning a childs park on the waste ground on the estate. Still no park cos all the cash went on meetings and expences. |
Re: help I'm stuck
We made use of a grant for an indoor toilet in 1969...... but if I remember rightly we had to put as much in from our own money as we got from the grant......I know it was a struggle for us at the time because my daughter was only about 8 months old and I hadn't gone back to work. The grant system does seem a bit biased, I know that they did up a lot of the houses on Marsden St with grant money, my dear old Ma lives up on Riley's Hill and when she enquired about having central heating put in using a grant she couldn't get one.

Re: help I'm stuck
I wish they would at least sandblast the terraced row I'm on so they all look reasonable as there are some pretty crummy paint jobs.
