Food Scare

Hope i'm not treading on any toes or repeating any thread here but has everyone heard about this Sudan 1 cancer causing additive in food. All foods affected can be found on www.sky.com/news there is over 350 affected foods and food agency are rcommending you throw these foods away

Also heard that on the news Tinkerbelle, it did say that Asda has responded by removing all affected food from the shelves. Have looked at the list and the majority of the food seems to be ready made meals or sauces, which i don't buy anyway. So no doubt there will be even less on the shelves when i go shopping tonight.

Fasinating....I must remember that next time I make a "Traditional Minced Beef and Veg Hotpot" (ASDA Numbers 40 & 41 on the government list) not to include Sudan Dye.

Cheers Tinkerbelle. I'd seen it the news but I wasn't aware of the list on Sky. Just had a peak in the old cupboard and all I've found is a Pot Noodle belonging to the other half.

Cruella de Tinkerbelle..... Yeah, you wish - Your just a big pussycat arn't you :p

The stuff they are talking about has a potential to be cancer causing in laboratory animals..........I'm not going to get too het up.......and I'm going to do what Janet says......hell you must have to eat a whole shed load of the stuff for it to do any damage. I don't eat too much ready made stuff......unless hubby makes it!

Re: Food Scare

What I would say is that why throw them away. Surely we should be taking them back for a full refund! It is teh responsibility of the retailer to ensure the produce they sell is fit for human consumption.

I will be returning any products I find to the shop.

Re: Food Scare

This is something which has accidentally got into the food chain and shouldn't have. It's not a case of one of the usual "don't eat this" and "don't eat that" scares. It's a dye which is not permitted in food which has been used as a red colouring in a batch of chilli pepper, which has then been used in preparation of a large variety of food products.

Personally I'd rather not eat something which could cause me harm but I was only saying the other day with reference to the way food tastes these days, or more to the point the fact that half of it doesn't taste at all, that we really haven't a clue what we are eating. We trust the farmers and growers. We trust the manufacturers. There's a list of ingredients on most cans and packets but do we even bother to read them and would we be any the wiser if we did?

Re: Food Scare

Willow, I agree totally thats why I make my own meals up. It doesn't take long and if you make double what you need at one go then freeze it you have some ready for the next time. It tastes better, costs less and you know exactly whats gone in it.

Actually i believe that the scientists have done a complete u turn on this one.Coffe is now supposed to be good for you against cancer.I was reading a report in the newspaper over here. The herbal stuff in coffee is supposed to help against it now.But tehn again give them 5 years and they will find its not good for something else

Bloody heck its bad for u one n good for u next just wish they would test properly rather than overtly panick only to change their mind

Re: Food Scare

So true words spoken there Janet!! Living is a risk to health lol. Im not gonna bother to look at the list cos if its bad then ive got it anyway besides i aint got money nor food to waste!! Tho i bet poorer countries where food is limited wouldnt bother over its long term possible risks whereas starving is more dangerous to health n a basic neccessity regardless. Tho i hope the food manufacturers take notice n dealt with!

TBH i dont they they know what actually causes cancer, i just think its one of those natural things hence why everything seems to cause it from fresh air to mobile phones other than smoking which causes clogging to yer system.

You gotta go sometime and i have been clinically twice.Holds no fears anymore but the bloody docs could get it right now and again. What is bad for you now is good for you in 5 years time.

Re: Food Scare

Apparently it was on the radio that SEX is bad for us now!! it is ok in moderation (2 a week) but other than that it is BAD for you..........BLA BLA BLA...... it was only a couple of month's ago that they said it is good for you and can even help with depression want to make there ruddy minds up me thinks.

I mean they are always hammering on about SUN BEDS and how they can cause skin cancer,
but the first thing your doctor will do if you are diagnosed with clinical depression is send you to have ultra violet light treatment, which is well known for it's qualities on helping depression so I ask.........are we to do it or are we not?? lmao

I can recommend two things that you should stop doing as they are bad for you:

1. Don't breathe the air
2. Don't drink the water
