Yeah? Recycle this then!
Your chance to sock it to the people who have dis-organised the refuse collection is approaching. For a week starting on Monday 21st February they will be out and about in a dinky little caravan, which they call a "Roadshow" (groan!). On hand to answer your questions will be Officers from from both the Recycling and Waste Services Departments.
How nice! I wonder if they are aware of the storm of abuse they will be letting themselves in for? Anyway, you can make the most of this opportunity to seize them by the throat and make them listen at the following locations: Monday 21st Feb. a.m. Church St. (outside the library), Church. p.m. Henry St. (alongside bottle banks), Church. Tuesday 22nd Feb. a.m. Junction of Pickup St. & Charter St. Acc. p.m. Dale St. (alongside Hynd Brook House). Wednesday 23rd Feb. all day Garbett Street P.O. (Willow!) Thursday 24th Feb. a.m. Christchurch Square p.m. Edmund St. junction with Napier St. Friday 25th Feb. a.m. Portland St. Community Centre. p.m. Swiss St. Acc. Have fun!:D |

4 weeks after having my wheelie bin stolen - when it was full I might add, can you believe it! - and after several phone calls and no joy, I decided to go down there and complain. When I got there what happened? There was a list of numbers on the counter to ring and talk to them by phone! Carefully watched by a CCTV camera. I ask you.:( I eventually got my replacemen bin, along with a letter letting me know basically that if someone pinches it again I have to fork out 50 quid! Charming. Apparently help is on the way though - in the form of a crack wheelie bin hunting team. They search yards and gardens for households with more than the required number of wheelie bins or with the wrong numbered wheelie bin! "Lessen the likelyhood of having your wheelie bin stolen by returning it to your property as soon as possibly after it has been emptied", they say. Bit difficult if you're working, as it it is to get to one of these amazing road shows me thinks. |
Re: Yeah? Recycle this then!
i will definatly be there i might just take a bag of crap their binmen forgot to take away and throw it at them

Re: Yeah? Recycle this then!
Thanks A-b but from the number of times I've complained when they've left rubbish to blow about the streets and end up in my front garden I am totally cynical about how much effect any meeting with this roadshow is likely to have.
If I'm not too busy I may pootle over and have a look at one. |

And here they are, snapped this morning in the Plantation Street area by yours truly. I'll bet the people at Radio One are green with envy.

Re: Yeah? Recycle this then!
Looks like an oxymoron........Willow.
but just to comment as I am not involved in the Hyndburn wheelie bin saga if they are going to charge you 50 quid if someone steals your bin then you go and steal someone elses. I know that when I was in the Airforce we had to always wear a beret outside, so inside you removed it 5 times out of 10 it would be stolen, delemia outside without and get in deep poo or steal someone elses........ a continous circle, theory The Airforce issued a few less berets then people, eventually some fool would get caught and have to buy a new one (not this fool) maybe the same with Hyndburn. |
Re: Yeah? Recycle this then!
Walking about this morning I was surprised at the number of abandoned wheelie bins scattered about the place. They seemed to be as numerous as shopping trollys used to be. Maybe they are this years "must have" toy.
As in: "We went out wheelie binnin yesterday an it were well cool coz Wayne lost is an he as to pay fifty quid fer another PMSL!" |
Re: Yeah? Recycle this then!
I have a question - where's all the snow?
We have a winter wonderland down here in Kent |
Re: Yeah? Recycle this then!
Maybe Bazf is onto something. Perhaps it's Hyndborg council's new fund raising initiative - issue less wheelie bins than there are households so that eventually someone will fail to nick somebody else's and have to pay the £50, or even better, dump their rubbish in black bags and be fined £1,000.

Re: Yeah? Recycle this then!
Not quite no.
It happened at an area council meeting. The bin people were answering questions after the meeting. I was with another resident and made reference to Hyndburns blue toy box scheme and said it was very good for keeping toys in but there was no way I was going to put empty cans with razor sharp edges into that blue box. It has a lid I was told. He is 3, he can use the sky remote to select which kids channel he wants on so a poorly fitting lid won't stop him cutting his fingers on a festering cat food tin. Why can't we have one of the small wheelie bins for cans, tins etc. Errrrrrrrrrrr, you can was the answer. A similar discussion occured about the silly blue bags. Have you noticed the number of empty pop bottle's blowing around after a windy recyling collection day. So I ended up with 2 small wheelie bins as a trial. There are 2 off us with a big bin and 2 small ones. I bet not many people know the Kerbside Recycler can handle wheelie bins. I use the paper sack as well. All bills etc are cross-cut shredded first or course ( and a lot of other flyers etc to make it harder to rebuild the private stuff). Card is saved and put out as side waste on non-recyle day. I am still waiting for the council to start recycling it instead of land filling it. About the only thing I throw in the non-recyle that I should not is glass. This probably averages out to about 1 jar a week. Not bad really for someone who was totally against having to do the councils work for them. The Government regs/rules or whatever they are say the council should provide a recepticle for recyclets and one for non-recylce waste. No mention of little boxes or bags etc. Look at Rossendale - 2 bins 1 for each, thats it. |

But that's a fair explanation, and if you have the room to store the 2 extra wheelies, then why not. Have seen where some people have opted for the smaller wheelies instead of the larger ones. On the cardboard, have a mate over in colne, he has just been given yet another sack for the cardboard, suppose HBC will get round to that in their own good time:) |
Re: Yeah? Recycle this then!
Just what we want another sack for dogs to p**s on!
|
Re: Yeah? Recycle this then!
My first problem is that I am rarely there on the day Hyndburn empty our bin. Therefore I end up with a lot of rubbish, and have to ask a kind neighbour to put the bin out, and then back in.
My second problem is that Hyndburn seem incapable of understanding that I do not have a blue box. I have rung them to tell them so, with the result that I now have three blue bags! Since in my household bottles are a regular item (make what you will of that!), I now have a backyard full of bottles. Oh well, back to the drawing board ...... |

I have them all in my yard.
Will sell them for £20 each. Thats £30 less than the council want if you keep losing yours. |

Re: Yeah? Recycle this then!
HBC are charging £50 for a bin that will never be yours that you are paying a Large fortune in council tax to have emptied.
( OK some smart ass from the refuge department is going to come on and tell me how tiny the amount is they get for emptying them. I know that but it sounds better the way I said it ). |

What happened to 'Privatisation'???
Surely someone other than' Hyndborg ' can offer a better alternative?? Or, forgive me, is it privatised already?? |

Re: Yeah? Recycle this then!
Uh, yes it is true actually. It cost us £2.25 million last year. And not only do we have to accomodate our own rubbish at the Whinney Hill site, but the stuff arrives daily from as far afield as Manchester, Wigan and Liverpool.
Now Lancs CC. want to spend some of the money you pay them, through the County Precept part of your council tax, to build a massive new waste processing facility on the site of Huncoat Power Station. That will take waste from the whole of Lancashire, and you can bet that we won't see a pennysworth of the benefit. |
Re: Yeah? Recycle this then!
God, A/B, I don't really believe this....
Gonna have to come back to it tomorrow, re-read it all, & try to understand.... If I comment tonight, someone will say I'm P****d Which, I probably am!!! |

If the Huncoat project does go ahead, could HBC not get the business rates, or would it be exempt from rates? |
