Child pornography
I don't know what's happening in U.K. at the moment but here in Oz numerous people have been caught and prosecuted lately for having in their possession, countless photos of nude children on their computers. It has caused such a furore that certain Councils are now putting in place by-laws to stop people from taking pics of kids at the beach and at swimming pools. Yes. It even includes parents who would like to take pics of their kids at such venues but can no longer do so. The whole thing stinks. One of these days the dipsticks who think of these things are just going to go too far.

Re: Child pornography
its got so bad in the uk that if you take pics of your kids in the bath some photo developers will report you to the police
although its not illigal you will be investigated and treated like a peodophile my mom has pictures of me and my brothers in the bath and i certainly know neither of my parents were peodophiles |
Re: Child pornography
You'd think the law would be able to make a distinction between child pornography and innocent photos of your own family but now proud parents can't even photograph their own children at school sports events etc.
Hasn't it always been the done thing to have a "naked baby" photo usually on a furry rug or in the bath and this is the one your parents always say they will show to your boyfriends when you get older? I have photos of my kids and they find them very amusing. My parents had embarrassing photos of me, one in an enamelled basin which they used as a baby bath. The really silly part is that the real paedophiles don't take their photos to Boots to be developed, they have digital cameras and video recorders and just download to their PCs so nobody knows what they've got anyway unless their PC is raided for some reason. |
Re: Child pornography
i think whats more worrying is the popularity of digital camera's which cuts out the whole middle man
ontop of that new camera fones are just as good quality as camera's but far more portable... |
Re: Child pornography
That's technology for you.
Anyway, the improvements in technology aren't a problem, until it gets into the hands of someone who wants to use it for illegal means. It's the same with anything though. Kitchen knives, for example are very handy things. We use them to chop things, to cut bread and general other boring kitcheny things. The same knife in someone else's hands, has the capacity to kill someone. Is that the fault of the knife? It's the same with the camera's that mani mentioned. |
Re: Child pornography
Julia Sommerville, the BBC news reader was arrested when she took photos of her children in the bath, to Boots a couple of years ago. Like other people said earlier, although sick, l don't think most child pornographers would be so stupid. At a tangent they're trying to ban mobile phones with cameras in Saudi Arabia, because men have been snapping women on the streets even though they were covered up. Technology, a long with everything else is open to abuse, but like us here, as also done a great deal of good things.

Re: Child pornography
What about the 12yr old girl, from, I think, Millfield Public School, who took photos of herself, & sent them to her boyfriend, who subsequently sent them on to his mates...all via the aid of camera phones.
Technology has gone too far!! |
Re: Child pornography
Agreed, mobile phone technology is much more frightening. The abuse could be endless, changing rooms is just one instance where people have been snapped unaware & have been posted on the web.

ime not sure what kind of pictures this 12 year old sent to her boyfriend but if they were indecent ones its not the mobile phones fault its the parents fault for not embedding any moral codes of conduct into their child personaly i think kids should not have mobiles theres a lot of covered up health issues caused by them and also gives a child way too much freedom |
Re: Child pornography
Quite right, if this girl was taking indecent pictures of herself, is it because technology has allowed her to do this? Or should her parents or guardians, have taught her more common sense. lt's like chat rooms, great idea, but just because they MAY be used for the wrong reasons should they be banned? Are we more aware of child abuse because it's increased, or are we be more educated because of high media coverage?

Re: Child pornography
She had taken nude photos of herself and sent them to the lad who then sent them around all his mates.
I agree it is a difficult line between the advantages that technology gives us and the harm it can do. We are in a situation where morals seem to be at an all time low. Decency seems to have gone out the window and yet nothing is our own fault. The world we live in is at a crossroads. Either we do something about it or those Judge Dredd cartoons of a controlling state are going to become the reality. |
Re: Child pornography
In this case someone has to take responsibility for this girls action. Millfield is one of the most expensive, [& liberal,] schools in the country. By the age of 12, you'd have thought she'd have more common sense. She made herself a victim, and her trust was abused, it's a very hard lesson too learn like that.

Re: Child pornography
I suppose you could argue that without the modern technology a 12 year old girl wouldn't have had the facility to take such photos - but then again polaroids have been around for quite a while and who knows how many of those got passed around between boys? The internet just reaches a far wider audience.

Re: Child pornography
if the technology hadnt been there for her to take nude pictures of her self she would probably have just invited him round to her place and showed him in person
this girl sounds like a natural born tart who will probably be pregnant by the age of 14 and ime betting her mobile phone will get blamed for that as well by her parents |
Re: Child pornography
l thought about polaroids, but like you say technology has made it so much easier, you don't need to buy film, or need anybody else to help you. l feel sorry for her; but old enough to do a daft thing like that in the first place, l think somebody should have taught her to be a bit less trusting.

Re: Child pornography
how far can we blame tecnology...?
when pencils were invented i wonder if they got blamed for nude drawings of people ...? |
Re: Child pornography
No ones blaming technology per se, but when a child [ or an adult for that case,] can be abused in private, yet can be accessed and viewed all over the world, again & again because of technology makes you think. lf you go to the sports centre, make sure you go in a cubicle, you never know where'll you'll end up!

the 2 main reasons why i am against children having mobile phones is because if a child has a good quality camera phone it makes them a target to theives/muggers the other reason is you used to see a lot of reports in the papers of ilnesses caused by people exposed to mobile radiation for long periods of time i just hope in the future we dont have an epedemic of cancers and tumours in our children, these ilneses were never proven or disproven they were just brushed under the carpet by mobile companies on the plus side having a mobile phone does enable a parent to keep in contact with their child and vice versa i just wish there was an alternitive that didnt involve kids walking around with a radioctive brick pressed against their ear |
Re: Child pornography
Well radioactive brick may just maybe a little overdone but i hear where you are coming from. However in this day and age its nice to know that if anything comes up your children can get in touch with you and vice versa

Re: Child pornography
hehe dont worry about it i have a real problem with quite a lot of things lol
i refuse point blank to eat microwaved food besides tasteing awfull i dont like the idea of consuming somthing blasted with radiation i would rather spend the extra time using an oven and enjoy the taste anyway back on the subject of perverts.. if you commit an offence in the uk with a gun you are no longer allowed to keep weapons of any kind so shouldnt there be a similar law with people caught using computers and the internet for swapping pictures of kids granted there would be ways around it but it would be more difficult for someone to acess the net if there names were given to service providers and banned from having an internet account and if caught with a pc or laptop then jailed for 5 years |
Re: Child pornography
i am sorry to say this but i live off microwave meals. i don't eat them every day but most vegertarian stuff is microwaved so i have no choice really.

Re: Child pornography
We eat a lot of microwaved stuff.
On the subject of mobile phones - I use the speaker on mine as much as possible. I was at Lakeside a while ago which made using the speaker impractical, so used it like a phone, and ended up with quite a bad headache, I believe as a direct result of using the phone. With regard to children and mobile phones, I saw a report on the telly a couple of years ago, that was really quite worrying. At the age of 5, the 'microwaves' generated by a mobile phone penetrate 50% into the child's brain. This reduces to around 30% for a child aged 10, and reduces as you get older and the skull thickens. I don't see why a child needs a phone - we always know where our children are, and the people they are with have a phone, or can get to one, so it is not necessary to have one. |
Re: Child pornography
My oldest daughter is at school across the other side of town and sometimes gets delayed for one reason or other. The teachers have at times asked her if she can use her mobile phone to let me know. Also I do like to think that there is a way I can get in touch with her just in case I have to go out before she gets home or something and she wouldn't know where I was.
Mind you, she doesn't always remember to switch the thing on when she comes out of school so the theory doesn't necessarily work in practice. |

That's one way of contacting her. If I needed to contact my son in a hurry, that's the method I would use. As I said in my previous post - our children are with people with access to a phone, so it really is not necessary for them to have one. |
Re: Child pornography
The school does have a phone but when you ring you get an answering machine with various assorted options of buttons to press for different subjects.
If she was still in school then possibly a message just might get to her but I wouldn't bank on it. However, I may need to contact her after lessons end but before she gets home - it takes her quite a while to get from all the way over there to all the way over here. To give you an idea - she leaves at 8am in the morning to get there on time. |
