Re: Help!!! Lost pet!!!

What I want to know is where the hell has she been for 15 hours??? Anyone know a good cat whisperer? Honestly, pets are just a trial,if she had turned up 20 minutes earlier I wouldn't have had to tell Kelsey and she would be non the wiser but Oh no! Blummen contrary beasts!!

Re: Help!!! Lost pet!!!

I am so pleased to hear that your pet returned home......I had a similar experience about 10 days ago......I have a big Maine Coon cat, he is used to being in the house and never stays out for more than an hour. We had the builders in and they came to the kitchen for some water and the cat legged it and was gone for over 12 hours.
I was absolutely distraught.....more so because that day I had had to have one of my other cats put to sleep. Kleenex must have put an overtime shift on just to cope with me!!!!

Doug 27-02-2005 20:47

Re: Help!!! Lost pet!!!

Glad to here it's back Lindsey. Margaret, I was going to ask one of those stupid questions but thought better of it. I am interested so I leave this for any about to ask:

The Coon Cat

One of the oldest natural breeds in North America, the Maine Coon is generally regarded as a native of the state of Maine (the Maine Coon is the official Maine State Cat). A native American longhaired cat the Maine Coon was recognized as a specific breed in Maine where they were held in high regard for their mousing talents. Through nature's own breeding program, this breed has developed into a sturdy cat ideally suited to the harsh winters and varied seasons of the region. :)

Margaret Pilkington 27-02-2005 20:55

Re: Help!!! Lost pet!!!

They are very large cats.....long coated, but they need much less grooming than other long coated breeds.
He is a rescued cat......not fond of the outdoors and with absolutely no road sense.
My Maine Coon is called MONTY.
Oh, yes and they are thought to have come about by a wild cat and a racoon mating....personally I can't see it. They have large paws and tufted ears. My cat has no tail...... but that is as a result of a fight with a dog.

Or they may even be on one of my flash drives.......I have so many pictures it would be impractical to keep them all on the machine.......I will go away for a minute and have a look.

I saw some instructions somewhere about how to download pictures, but I didn't have time to digest it properly.
When I find the pics I will try to post them to this thread.....so watch this space.

Thanks Margaret, that would be very welcome. It was Willow who helped me but I'm sure Mick or Len will offer their assistance. Maybe we could have a Pet Album in the Gallery.

Re: Help!!! Lost pet!!!

Glad to hear your cat came back Lindsay. They can be a worry at times can't they? Ours had an appoijntment at the vet's one day last week. Now normally every morning she sits having a snooze on a chair in the front room or she bugs me when I'm trying to read the paper or walks all over the ironing board as if she has more rights to it than I do (she hasn't learned how to iron yet though - if she did I'd appreciate it) but that morning she must have known where she was destined for and did a runner. We hunted for her but to no avail and so gave it up as a bad job and did a bit of furniture removing instead. I had to phone the vet and apologise for our absence.

Just before Busman was due back at work up strolls a very nonchalant cat with an "I got out of that one didn't I?" expression on her face.

Would love to see a pic of your cat Margaret if you take one tomorrow. If you get stuck with the uploading there is a thread about it somewhere or just ask and somebody in the know will gladly help out. I'm usually online once or twice a day so you can nearly always catch me by PM.

I WAS going to mention it but thought it might be a bit churlish seeing as how doug was trying to help me.......Oh by the way for those who are interested.......I can't find those pics anywhere, but have just remembered that I had a serious computer melt down in May last year and I think they may have been lost in that. Never mind I got the lad to sit again for pics......though he looked very disdainful when asked......I will have a go at putting them on the site tomorrow evening.

Margaret you can be as churlish as with me you want, :p I’ve always seen you as a nice person :) and I think that I would find it near on impossible to upset me. I set myself up for these little foibles out of boredom. just to see what comes back.

Oh no Margaret, only one a night, Jesus any more is too much for me these days. I admit you did take me with that one, it just hit that bit of the funny bone that makes you cry. Just letting my tea settle now and I'll have a nice bottle of Black Sheep to compensate. Still looking forward to seeing you coon. All I can say is thank god people know what we're on about. lol.

you know that a good laugh is very beneficial to your immune system so I am GLAD I tickled your funny bone.
I will get the pics up if it kills me...... but maybe not tonight.
My brain is a bit mashed......we have had the ankle biter today, and I have had a bit of a frustrating time with e-mails and the computer......for full details check out my journal.......I love my computer and couldn't live without it, but sometimes I could kick the b****y thing into the canal.

Re: Help!!! Lost pet!!!

Just think how proud of yourself you'll feel when you've finally managed to get those pics on here.

Just a little advance warning - there is a limit to the size of photo you can upload to AccyWeb so check the attributes first. (You can do that in paint by clicking on "image") I think the maximum is 200KB for a jpeg. (make sure it isn't a bitmap) If it's too big just shrink it a bit in paint.

Look forward to seeing the pics.

Bloody Hell Margaret, don't you need a Dangerous Animal licence, that’s one mean looking pussy. Looks a big bu**er an all. I bet it eats what it likes lol.
He looks lovely Margaret and thank you for sharing him with us. :)

Margaret Pilkington 02-03-2005 17:15

Re: Help!!! Lost pet!!!

I know it is a big picture......probably did something not quite right...... but I had faffed about for so long that I posted it anyway.
He is a very big cat, and he can be a bit mean......but because he is a rescued cat I don't know his background at all. He is a very fussy eater and will only eat Whiskas.....and he can read labels.....by that I mean if I try to give him anything else he knows(even if it comes out of a Whiskas can......I have in the past decanted cheaper cat food into a whiskas can)...... but you can't fool him.
The picture was taken on his bed......but he does allow us to sleep in it at night!

Doug 02-03-2005 17:30

Re: Help!!! Lost pet!!!

Well we know who the boss is in your house don't we.......lol. He's very hansom Margaret and if there’s any raccoon in him it’s because he’s bloody eaten it.

She’s stopping me from working during the day. It’s not cheep you know. All that Whiskers. All the money…..Fancy a Bitch, she doesn’t wear her boots in the house honest.

Love the photo Margaret. What an expression on that cat's face! And some people say cats don't have facial expression, :D that one speaks volumes, most of it seemingly disgruntled at having to pose for a photograph and very condescendingly doing so.

Re: Help!!! Lost pet!!!

Pasha is just a black and white moggy......and I mean that in the very best sense of the word.....and Barker is a rough coated Jack Russell Terrier.
Pasha adopted us. It was very strange really, my hubby had just had a stroke and was feeling very down in the mouth, when this playful black and white kitten walked into the house one day......made a beeline for him and draped herself around his shoulders like a furry scarf......and that is why she is called Pasha.....after the Pashmina scarf. She lifted my hubby's spirits no end and that was the start of a very fine recovery for him.....so I think she is his guardian angel in disguise!

Margaret Pilkington 03-03-2005 15:14

Re: Help!!! Lost pet!!!

Yes Willow, you are certainly right about Monty.....he was a king in a previous existence and hasn't forgotten it. Sometimes he will sit on my lap and be stroked......and other times he would bite me soon as look at me. And if I put him out for a pee and he doesn't want to go he walks down the back yard growling all the way and looking over his shoulder giving me evils. Sir Roy Strong wrote about the breed in the paper recently and it was most enlightening. Apparently it is a feature of the breed to splash about in their water dish with their paws before they drink.....Monty does that! and they don't like to be fed at ground level.....Monty will only eat food it it is on the kitchen work top......I have had to buy those special glass cutting boards so that we can do that......when he sees them being taken out he comes into the kitchen and jumps up when the surface protectors are in place......when he has fed I take them off and wash them and he doesn't get up on the work top again until it is feeding time again.

sorry to put a downer on the upbeat theme of this thread, but i was reading the first couple of entries re the cat being lost then found in peel park.
just be careful round there with your cats because there is a chap on lodge street who steals cats and takes them into his house. the R.S.P.C.A. are aware but have limited powers.
the guy in question looks like a vagrant and has a shopping bag on wheels. he stole one of my friends cats.

They make better companions than humans to some people. I would expect that the beasts in question are cared for other wise the RSPCA would act. In respect of the matter cats are legally considered to be vermin so technically cat napping is not a crime

That a wonderful storey Margaret and you've made cry. I'm so pleased that things have turned around for your hubby in this way. It goes to prove how in a considerable number of cases how important it is to continue to maintain contact with pets during the course of a serious illness. All too often pets are excluded often on the ground of infection which as I’m sure you will agree is not always necessary...

Re: Help!!! Lost pet!!!

Yes Doug and it is a proven medical fact that animals can help with recovery from serious illness......lots of hospitals now have a PAT dogs scheme.....this is where an organisation takes dogs around designated hospital wards for the patients to see and to pet. And I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I think the hospice has a cat.
I did try to find Pasha's owner before we kept her, but no-one in the locality had lost her and the vet said she had not been chipped......she was about 6 months old when she walked into our home.......that is 5 years ago now.

Re: Stanerlee's post about the bloke cat-napping;that was the first thing that entered my mind on Sunday when Mooney was missing! He has stolen a cat from my friend too,she called the RSPCA and they could see the cat in the window but could do nothing because it had no collar and wasn't chipped! Mooney will be getting chipped next week so at least we have a chance if he ever nicks her.To my reckoning he must have nigh on 20 cats in that house;I even sold him some kittens once because he came over as quite respectable and obviously loved them! This was about 9 years ago. As long as the RSPCA are aware of him I will leave it at that for now,but if he touches my pussy.... the wrath of the gods will befall him!!!!!!

I bought a King Charles spaniel about 18 years ago, that was a retired PAT dog. She went for me as soon as I got her home, twice. It took about three weeks for her to settle down. The first time she jumped up on to my knee was so she could bit me again. She was passed on to my mother just after Christmas about a year after she puked up all over the house after eating Turkey for her dinner. She did turn out to be a fantastic pet in the end. Cats are for more of a challenge, they know for the care they give people, but like all felines their so bloody unpredictable, unless of course they adopt you then they just rule you for evermore.
