More shops closing down!

Noticed today that David Spruce[the Clarke's shoe shop] is closing down, as is the Pine shop just next to it on Abbey Street and the Lucky Shoe shop on Bank St too. Along with Barnes' furniture store,4 independent retailers closing down in a short space of time.Looby Lou[kids clothes shop] on Water St closed last week.I can't help but think that the extortionate business rates and the appalling state of our town centre has played a massive part in the demise of these shops. When I worked in the Arndale Centre last year we were always hearing rumours of who was closing next, and believe me even M&S was mentioned at one point fairly recently !
It's definitely case of use it or lose it!

Sadly rats and sinking ships spring to mind.

There's going to be nothing left in Accy in a bit but pound shops and charity shops. :(

hmm so its a string of pound shops, a few pubs and oxfam...... we are going to be one rocking town. As you can see on my profile, my vision of accrington is almost certainly on its way...... not.

It started going downhill when Wardleworths closed. A town without a bookshop is an uneducated town. Lucky the panopticon is going to bring the crowds flocking back !!

According to the "Powers That Be" it's going to make them flock overhead to view it from above. Any chance of getting a few shops up in the clouds?

Don't forget the kee-bab shops! They are expanding in Accy faster than the Chinese economy.

I don't see why not. Its where most of the panopticons supporters heads seem to be...(yes I could've been crude, but chose not to be!)

May be the internet as a bearing on a lot of shop closures, for instance the antique shop business as suffered due to Ebay shopping, and things in general are a lot cheaper
on the internet, for instance I have just purchased a new camera for £125,selling at
Argos for £199-99.
