Censored.
Just wrote my journal and on reading it back to see if it made any sense, saw that it had automatically censored by the asterix monster!
I understand that this is a family site but l hate censorship of any kind, especaially if it's done by a computer! What happened to Free[ish] Speech? l was quite happily able to write about prostitutes, but an innocent word became s****y! Put a 'J Arthur Rank' in place of the asterixes to read what l wanted to write! |
Re: Censored.
P.S. This isn't a cheap shot to make you read my journal. By using the word prostitutes though, my blog was viewed by 6 people in 2 minutes of posting this! Told you l was nosey! l even know who you are:)
Sorry it wasn't very rude! |
Re: Censored.
It's just one of those automatic things Garinda. Moderators unfortunately can't be everywhere and sometimes miss things so an auto censor is set up to catch the most obvious words and blank them out. Unfortunately computers being what they are it also blanks out part words when they spell out the censored word.
We had a hilarious moment on another message board I visit where someone mentioned that well-known actor "Family Jewels van Hoover Dam" - I'll leave you to guess who that was. We also had a "roostertail party" and that famous bear "Winnie the Whoopsie" It eventually led to members trying out all the rude or possibly unacceptable words they could think of to see what would come up. Unfortunately not all featured in the auto censor and there were some very embarrassed people hurredly editing their posts! I do think there is a valid place for censorship on a family message board. Yes I know kids themselves hear worse in the playground sometimes but that is such a shame. As the blogs are a feature of the board they are bound to come under the same censoring umbrella. Don't let it spoil your fun. You have such a lot of interesting things to say. |
Re: Censored.
Thanks Willow. lt made me laugh more than anything, as someone who sometimes stoops to use innuendo l was shocked to see my innocent word asterixed. l totally agree this is a family site, and although l don't believe in censorship there is a time and a place for everything, and there are lots of sites with a more adult content. They're just not as entertaining as us lot here though!

Re: Censored.
I once enquired about the auto-censor at one of the meet ups as I had noticed that it had censored the same word that Garinda used in his journal in one of my posts. I asked if it would censor the name of a well known North East town and I was invited to try it. I never did take up the invitation but I will now............ Scunthorpe....:D

Re: Censored.
On the website of the village where I live, we were having a discussion about radio programmes. It got round to "The Archers" and I mentioned its predecessor, "Dick Barton, Special Agent". Yes, you guessed it. ;)

Re: Censored.
Good heavens, it has let me say "Dick"!

Re: Censored.
Garinda...... the censoring hasn't taken anything away from your journal entry.....it is still an enjoyable read. I have to say that most times if I am using a questionable word I will censor it myself......you have to work for your pleasure.

Re: Censored.
I also would like to say the censoring doesn't spoil the content garinda put me down for a pre-order on your autobiography :) looking forward to the next chapters.

Re: Censored.
Just noticed that l used the word ****** in my post in the epitaph thread and it wasn't deleted. Strange it's deemed acceptable when you think what the literal meaning is! Any vulgar words regarding the same act involving the front botty are deleted. Strange old World.

Re: Censored.
I nearly decorated my laptop with my tea at that last comment Garinda!
Nicely put though! |
