Re: The "New" Panopticon
Can you just imagine Landrovers riding over it? (Won't be Roy cos he'll be in Russia.)

Re: The "New" Panopticon
I have a feeling that this is going to go the same way as the Diana Memorial Fountain and Millenium Dome!

Re: The "New" Panopticon

Re: The "New" Panopticon
I was intrigued by this article in this morning’s Timesonline…
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...543249,00.html Sounds like a good idea I thought, just the sort of thing Hyndburn could do with. I especially liked the idea of roads being blocked with traffic as visitors scrambled to get a look at The Garden of Cosmic Speculation. Might as well have a closer look, I thought… http://www.edinburgharchitecture.co....les_jencks.htm And now perhaps the Panopticon proposal for Accrington may be seen in it’s true light, as Unoriginal, Derivative and Plagiarist; a cheap and shoddy copy of something else. By accepting this proposal not only do we risk causing irreparable damage to an important Natural Landmark, we also expose ourselves to ridicule rather than respect. Far from being the toast of the NorthWest, Accrington will become a laughing stock. It will make the people of Accrington look as cheap and ersatz as the work itself. It would demonstrate that we know nothing about Art and care little for our environment. How many tourists will flock to Accrington to see a pale pastiche of an original we cannot afford? I can tell you now, before the thing is even off the drawing board – NONE! |
Re: The "New" Panopticon
When I saw the new 'improved' (what a joke) plans that had been put forward for the Panopticon I thought I must be hard to please......... because I hate this one even more than the tele tubby thing......for all the reasons that Willow has cited (I think you must be able to read my mind Willow).
I hate this stuff that masquerades as ART..........the Emperors New clothes springs to mind.........we are being hoodwinked into thinking that this stuff is good so we MUST have it. Another Load of S***E.......please pardon my french! |
Re: The "New" Panopticon
Now't wrong with your french Mrs Pilkington......:)

Re: The "New" Panopticon
i'm in favour of a work of art if its for nowt, but certainly not that death trap, nor that site, perhaps something in the town itself as others have mentioned, which would be able to be seen by all,not just the phsically fit @ pilots,i think it would be a better advert for the town if on broadway or somewhere central, also if theres any money left from that, chop the trees down on the coppice,as willow said i to prefered it when it had none.

Re: The "New" Panopticon
Doug, Darling......nothing at all wrong with my french.......but I was swearing in asterisks.....I'm sure you guessed from my cynical tone......it is becoming obvious to me that the latest treatment is not working (to cure my cynicism)
