Good Friday

Good Friday mark's the anniversary of Christ's death. Could someone please tell me what's good about it.

I suppose it is called Good because he died to save mankind. Or so I was taught.

Re: Good Friday

It has been suggested by some etymologists that the term was originally "God's Friday" and that "God" and "good" are often substituted for each other or simply become confused because of their similarity. For instance "God be with you", which today has become "good-bye". Maybe Good Friday was originally God’s Friday. But you could argue that we call it Good Friday because the Atonement brought about the greatest good there could be in Christ providing a way for sinful humanity to have hope in an eternal reconciliation with a merciful God.
