Doctor Who?
Watched it last night and thought it was good. So who is your favourite Dr Who? I'm sure most people will pick the one who was on when they first started watching. My favourite is Jon Pertwee, a bit foppish but great fun - ruined it totally for me when he became Worzel Gummidge, I couldn't take the Dr seriously again.

Re: Doctor Who?
I think I will pick Tom Baker. Why not make this thread a poll?
|
Re: Doctor Who?
tom baker was the best and that sylvester mcoy was a wast eof time and sighed the death warrent of doctor who in my eyes
|
Re: Doctor Who?
I am old enough to have seen them all.
I reckon Patrick Troughton was my favourite, though I think this new series will prove to be the best. |
Re: Doctor Who?

I'm glad i'm not on my own!!
LOL |
Re: Doctor Who?
it was ok when i was a kid in the 70s but i soon lost interest once K9 left
|
Re: Doctor Who?
I used to watch it in the early 60s, frightened me to death then. I would hide behind the cushion. Never appealed to me as i got older.
|
Re: Doctor Who?
I used to like it years ago, Tom Baker and k9 were my fav's,but Bonnie Langford and Sylvester Macoy did my head in! and I never watched after that! I watched last night and thought it was good, Babylon 5 was the best sci-fi show for me!
|
Re: Doctor Who?
I agree that Stargate is the best Sci fi around (personally thought Enterprise was a bit of washout and prefered Voyager in that vein). But Dr Who is the best British sci fi - and please don't anyone go off into raptures about Blakes 7.
I'd happily set up a poll - anyone want to tell me how to do it? |

Incidentaly, On the subjest of the Dr. Who remembers that naff song from the ninetys of the same name - The video to the song had an american police car driving round a car park smashing up Daleks. |
Re: Doctor Who?
My favourite Doctor was Jon Pertwee which is strange because when I'd heard he was taking over from Patrick Troughton I was convinced that he would be terrible. I'd previously seen the silly comedy side of him which comes over so well in Worzel Gummidge and I was sure that he would play it that way and make a mockery of something which although it is often ridiculed needs to be played seriously and taken seriously by those in the lead roles.
How wrong I was. The "bumbling twit" character which I expected to see never appeared but instead there was someone who to me at the time was totaly convincing as a time lord and believable with his sonic screwdriver reversing the polarity of the neutron field. One of the things which made that particular series more impressive too was the fact that the majority of it took place on earth during the time period we were watching. It was therefore far more realistic and believable to me than if it had been on other planets or other time periods. This was earth, here and now with scary things goin on!! Roger Delgado was my favourite "Master" - very sly and cunning and I just loved Bessie. |

A satellite TV forum I use has the same poll ( yes I am a sad git :D )
I will change the attachment when they get more votes. |
Re: Doctor Who?
Maybe the satellite TV forum could be persuaded to spell Jon Pertwee's name correctly?

Re: Doctor Who?
I preferred Tom Baker, but he was the first one I remember watching.
As for other Sci Fi, I thought Babylon 5 was one of the best ever Sci Fi programmes, much better than Deep Space Nine (which was also good, but not up the standard of B5). I hope they show it again (on terrestrial tv!) |

Re: Doctor Who?
Dr Who's next as Ecclestone quits
Actor Christopher Eccleston has quit his role as time-travelling hero Dr Who after just one episode of the new series was screened, the BBC says. Eccleston, who took up the ninth reincarnation of the Timelord, feared being typecast. He said he was planning new projects and that he found filming the 13-part series gruelling. "The audience's response for the new Dr Who has been incredible and I am really proud to be part of it and I hope viewers continue to enjoy the series," Eccleston said in a statement on Thursday. Talks to replace him with period drama "Casanova" star David Tennant for the second series were taking place, the BBC said. Former pop star Billie Piper who plays Dr Who's sidekick Rose will appear in the next series. Dr Who first appeared in 1963 and became a huge hit despite its unconvincing monsters and wobbly sets. The programme was relaunched last Saturday, attracting around 10 million viewers, after being off air since 1989. |
