No wonder the council are strapped for cash...

So I just rang the town hall council tax office to happily inform them that I will no longer be paying council tax. The first call just rang on and on.. The second call was answered by a woman who was pretending to be an answering machine. She said there was nobody available to take the call and can she have my name and number, this I thought strange, as she had just answered the call. I asked why she couldn't deal with it and she said her job was just to take names and numbers and inform that you'll be called back within 24 hours!
Beggars belief really.

Is this perhaps something to do with the one-day strike over pensions ?

Could it be the new call centre, the one stop shop..............Roy you sure it was the town hall and not one of these "new call centres" via......where ever :D

I phoned HBC several months ago only to be asked to phone back because the computers were down. I asked what relevance this had, to be told "We can't take calls when the computers are down because we can't enter any details." The young lady took exception when I asked if she could write. She demanded to know why I was impertinent enough to suggest she was less than literate. I explained the thinking behind my question, which was that perhaps she could take note of the details of our conversation and enter them as and when the computers were back online. " Oh no." She replied. "We're not allowed to do that. You'll have to phone back."

It's quite a common occurrence Roy;it's happened to me twice and both times they never rang back! I would advise going into the Offices with a black refuse sack slung over your shoulder and ask to speak to someone in authority.{they aren't to know the contents of the sack could be for the Scope shop!**;)
