Re: Acc.Observer sense of humour!!!

DECISION WILL MEAN "BORING" COPPICE WILL BE UP TO DATE IN THE 21ST CENTURY

panoptiocon favourites ALL given the green light
"Now there will be something for everyone"

Accrington's Coppice is set to become the most cluttered hill in Europe.Sick of the bickering over plans to erect a panopticon on the summit,HBC has granted planning permission to ALL the suggested schemes.
This means that the "High Form" design of earthwork in concentric circles, revealed last week, will be joined by the previously rejected flying saucer and the Hollywood -style Welcome to Accrington sign.
And plans suggested by Observer readers such as a giant football,an Accrington Pals memorial and a Mount Rushmore style rockface with pictures of leading councillors will also be given the go-ahead.
Organisers from Mid- Pennine Arts were delighted with the news
A spokesman said
" Coppice has always been a rather boring hill with just some grass and a few trees attracting a bit of wildlife. The only trouble is that Coppice is on rather a steep slope. We're hoping to install a ski lift to get people up there but if we could find some way of flattening the hill we would be able to attract even more tourists."
A Council spokesman said the finance should not be problem,he explained "We
have managed to divert some funding from OAP's and pensioners charities so council tax should rise no more than 10%.
It is hoped all the structures will have been erected by exactly a year today,1st April.

Enjoy!;)

I think this is one of the most ill-timed and badly thought out stories I have ever read. There's such a difference between writing an amusing story about a 'bunny born with two heads', and something like this, which plays on a controversial topic which angers many people in the borough.
I was mad when I read it. Not mad for what the paper says is going to happen, but mad that a topic close to the heart of so many was crudely made fun of. It's a new low in my opinion.

Doug 01-04-2005 09:10

Re: Acc.Observer sense of humour!!!

Don’t be to concerned with it Dillon, send ups like this are often a wake up call that can draw the attention of the uninformed and the fence sitters. The more people who know about the issue and show an interest the better the debate will become and hopefully the people of Accrington will get something they want, as opposed to something shoved at them. Happy Birthday Mate and have a good one…………

I found it very funny. Many people in the borough have no idea what is going on.
I would put money on the fact that the majority don't care what happens ( not that you would ever get a decent turn out in a vote ).

Further proof that the Accy Obs have a sense of humour - page 18 this week has a full page advert for scooters, motorbikes and quad bikes. I'm surprised it didn't add 'excellent for riding around the hills of Accrington'.

By the way, I know you all accused me of monitoring the site for a while before I joined it but our other local paper certainly does the same.

Surely that is allowed because there is the guest option on the site? Or am I confused and doing something wrong?

I like reading what is on here but don't always feel I have anything worthwhile to add. I only live locally and enjoy what is on here because it is nice to be in a community which has well, a sense of community. It's open for anyone to see, in effect, look at the comments Graham Jones got in the paper on the back of what was written on here. All credit to the papers for having the nouse to dig out a site like this.

And all credit to you all for setting it up.

"By the way, I know you all accused me of monitoring the site for a while before I joined it but our other local paper certainly does the same."

Oh Gayle, Don't you think that the word "ACCUSED" is just a little strong? No one has made a big issue of it and it does the web site proud that people like yourself check occasionally to see what the populace are saying and thinking. Can I just remind you though of the very first few words you ever up-loaded to the Accy web.........

"Some of you will be aware that I have been viewing this website for the past few weeks. I have shied clear of coming on in person because I did not want to antagonise some of you anymore....."

Of all the people that come onto the site as a guest I would dearly like to know that P. Britcliffe is amonst them so that he knows his standing within the community;)

As far as any newspapers "monitoring" us well I think we cottoned on to that when we got madly misquoted last summer regarding the Arndale clock. It's great to know that the site has such an impact on the local press.:)

According to the Observer last August the AccyWeb members saved it from obscurity and ensured that it will be erected elsewhere - unfortunately that was a slight exaggeration. All we did was moan about it's loss. As far as I'm aware it's still in the bowels of the Arndale unrepaired and with nowhere to go.

I agree Noggin. I am in a similar situation, and enjoy logging onto the site ocassionally to see what is going on in the area. I think it's a good thing that the local press checks it out ocassionally. I for one have been scathing recently of the Accy Ob, and it would be nice to think that my comments are heard!

I’ve only been driving for five years; I’m forty five, severely dyslexic (don’t be fooled, its all done in word before it’s posted), and was totally submissive in the respect that I never believed I would ever have the nerve to do it. I failed three times and passed on my forth test. Mac, I have never looked back….so pick yourself up, dust you down and keep at it. I wish you every success for the future…….keep it up.

I didn't say you where cheap, I was testing the water......:p .....If your going to get into buying arms and legs you need to get best value. This is a reverse economy you know, you don't get a by the pound price for arms and legs, Now, how do you put this without getting it stuck back up the nose? :D

I cannot believe this thread is so full of irrelevant chatter. There is a chat room here that you can conduct your idle chatter in, please don't fill the threads up with this rubbish. One of the moderators already had to spend some time cleaning this thread and then you still carry on regardless!!

Thread locked thanks to the chit chatters.
