Sperm donors to be identified
Children born using donated eggs or sperm will be able to find out who helped give them life from today.
Records have always been kept confidential but a change in the law means identities can be released when children reach 18. The move has prompted fears of a shortage of future donors, putting even more barriers in the way of infertile couples desperate to have a baby. Health Minister Stephen Ladyman said: "We think it is right that donor-conceived people should be able to have information, should they want it, about their genetic origins and that is why we have changed the law on donor anonymity. "We are working hard with the National Gamete Donation Trust to encourage more people to become donors. "And we have launched an awareness campaign which aims to change public perceptions of donation." What are your views on this subject? |
Re: Sperm donors to be identified
I would hate to know that my father was a sperm donor after all who wants to go through life saying, "my dad's a w*nker!"
 |
Re: Sperm donors to be identified
didgusting these kids have no right to know who the sperm came from they should be greatful that 2 people cared enough to go through the procedure to have them in the first place
when donating a blood sample should also be given to search for genetic diseases etc then there is no reason to ever know who the donar was as for situations where bone marrow or a kidney is needed the clinic could ask the donar if they are willing to help and again no contact needed what we have to remember is these people set out to do a good deed and help childless couples have a family so how far is this law going to go are thousands of donors going to end up with huge C.S.A bills |
Re: Sperm donors to be identified
I did hear on the news earlier that there would be no c.s.a involvement......or donors having to cough up......but we shall wait and see.

I can see a point in the children having access to medical information which might be relevant in their own treatment for something but to actually have the identity of the donor I think is going too far. Where will it end? |
Re: Sperm donors to be identified
people will be afraid to donate sperm to oganised organisations that can screen samples etc
this could end up in a black market for sperm donars who will be unscreened yeah i know black market sperm sounds laughable but it could happen lol |
