dangerous napkins
Police in Tewkesbury had come up with an idea to get information out to pensioners with advice about crime prevention. The idea they had was to have the information printed on napkins that would be sent out with the meals on wheels. It wouldn't have reached all pensioners of course because not all pensioners get meals on wheels, but it does sound like a very good idea.
So what was wrong with it? Their local council has stopped it because they fear the pensioners could choke on the napkins! Somehow they manage to have got through seventy odd years or more without choking on a napkin so why should they suddenly develop the urge to eat one? Especially as it would have writing all over it. |
Re: dangerous napkins
Perhaps they should print them on serviettes, easier to eat if the urge overcomes them!
Serviettes are very non-u according to one of the Mitford sisters though. :( |
Re: dangerous napkins
make them out of edible paper then
think its called rice paper ;) |

Re: dangerous napkins
I know some pensioners are on limited budgets, but I wouldn't honestly have thought they would be reduced to eating napkins. They are far more likely to choke on the meals on wheels - perhaps they should stop that too - of course, if we stopped feeding pensioners they would all die of starvation, and think what Gordon Brown could save!
(Just joking, Mez, I'm nearly there myself!) |
Re: dangerous napkins
Just read up on this story and the whole of Gloucestershire is in favour of the things and will be going ahead with the scheme all apart from Tewkesbury.
If I was a pensioner in Tewkesbury I'd be highly miffed. |
Re: dangerous napkins
Maybe one piece of useful information they could print on the napkins could be "Do Not Eat Napkins".

Re: dangerous napkins
These are the people that survived a world war.........how patronising can you get.
Talk about a nanny state. |
Re: dangerous napkins
Be fair Willow, They have not been banned exactly, just suspended until one of the highly paid council committees do a "Risk Assessment!" :rofl38: :rofl38:

Re: dangerous napkins
We all laugh about stupid stories like this every day.
Can you imagine what we would all be saying if someone dies from napkin poisoning? |
Re: dangerous napkins
I would say serves em right if they are daft enough to eat a napkin. (I'm a cruel woman)

Re: dangerous napkins
Perhaps the Police would be better advised to put the Crime Prevention Info on milk cartons and then we could all benefit.

Re: dangerous napkins
I don't drink milk.
