I am with you two…climate change has been a cyclical event since time began…and it will continue long after we have left the planet.

Here’s one contribution to a cleaner globe being made by net zero.

Re: The drive for net zero.

Right now (5pm) 7% of our electricity is being supplied from wind and solar, with those nasty gas (ccgt) and nuclear power stations having to deliver 10 times that amount (70%) in order to keep the country running.
Nut Zero in action.

Re: The drive for net zero.

According to Octopus, 100% of my energy is green.

Although it don't matter what we in the UK do, our collective contribution to reduced emmissions etc. will do absolutly zilch.
Places like Spain will still get a years rain in 8 hours killing many as has just happened.

Our governments (of all countries) will not plan nor pay for measures to prevent flooding like just happened so these events will continue.

If the entire US and China were to go for net zero, then and only then might we have a chance.
So if it floods near you, get your own armbands out and have a swim because everything else if screwed.
I'm glad I live on a hill

Re: The drive for net zero.

Anyone who thinks that electric vehicles are eco friendly is deluded.
The battery for an electric car like the Tesla is heavy on the mining of precious minerals and as far as I am aware there is no way to recycle them.
It takes up to 1000 tonnes or ore bearing earth to obtain 25 lbs of lithium.
This earth bearing ore is dug up by earth moving equipment which needs diesel to fuel them.
Lithium is refined by using sulphuric acid and to refine enough for one battery takes around 75 semi trailer loads of the stuff.
The other components of the battery are copper, manganese nickel and cobalt…all need to be mined.
Some of this mining is done in third world countries by children. All of these mineral have toxic properties.
The energy used to mine these substances is from sources that use fossil fuels.
So, now do you think these vehicles are eco friendly?

Re: The drive for net zero.

Notwithstanding the environmental destruction being wrought by the Nut Zero Zealots, there just aren’t the raw materials to fulfil their dreams.

As the table suggests….we’re going to need a few more planets to plunder to get enough minerals to achieve Nut Zero.

Re: The drive for net zero.

Half past four on an early November day and we’re getting 3% of our electricity from solar AND wind.

Petrol generators are still available, but don’t tell Ed Millibrain!
