Great Harwood

I'm going out tonight around Great Harwood. Every time i've been over there with friends, we always seem to be in the wrong pub at the wrong time.

i.e. Too quiet or too late.

Is there a best time to be in certain pubs. We have to go to the Cross Axe(s) for the karaoke.

Can anybody help please.

Sorry Accyjay - I like this section of Accyweb (the booze/pub section lol), but I'm no use to you. Last time I went Great Harwood was about ten years ago, Cross Axes was the place to be but no idea now. I hope it was a good night anyway and you found some good drinking places.

Thanks. I'll remember that next time. We only went in the Cross Axes last night for the karaoke (girlfried wanted to enter their comp). There was only 6 people who entered it. One of the girls that was out with us (un-invited), was a right pain & whinged all night. We ended up going back to Accy at 10:30, didn't even stay for the results. I think the girlfriend would have won it.

I don’t usually go out on a Sunday anymore due too getting up early for work and especially when you could stay out till 1.00am ish, not recommended.

I think the busiest most popular pubs are as Blackburn raver suggests.

I suppose these days its difficult being in the right place at the right time, due too the extended hours. Once a day when it was 11.00 closing everybody that was going out that night would probably be out for around 8.00-8.30 ish and the most popular pubs would be busy. These days it’s not the same; it appears that everybody goes out at different times. I know if I’m going out and it’s too nothing special I won’t bother until about 10.00-10.30 ish, even going out at that time I’m still going to get 3 hours in. hehe

It’s funny though because you could be in a particular pub at say 9.00 and it would be heaving but if you were to get there at say 9.30 the same place could be dead, you’ve just got to hope you’ve got it right and you’re in with the crowd as they move. I hope that make sense? Hehe

I suppose its the same everywhere Accy, Blackburn etc.

I'm out again this Sunday night round Harwood again. The girlfried is singing in the karaoke at the Cross Axes. If anybody fancy's coming along to cheer her on, it would be appreciated.

Unfortunately she won't be singing in that competition again. We went last week, only to find out that nobody else had turned up. I thought that surely she would have gone through to the next round automatically, but, no, they said that she could sing & have her score carried over to this week. It's a farce. Most weeks the regulars that have entered the competition are all sat with the judges. The landlady told my girlfriend that she was at a disadvantage because she didn't have much support with her. In other words, our group weren't putting enough money over the bar. Each time we have been there, there has usually been 6/8 of us & we usually spend £25 each whilst we are there.

Silly me, for thinking it was a singing competition. If we weren't spending enough money for the landlady's liking, that unfotunate. We'll be spending even less now. i.e. nothing.

Not at all mate. She would have got through to the next round easily. I was annoyed with what was said, that's all. We'd had a natter the previous week with the landlady, & she seemed really nice. (smiley's aren't working. doh.)

Re: Great Harwood

Hello AccyJay,

We at the Cross were disappointed to read your comments about our recent competition and would like to try and clear up any misunderstandings.

The competition was marked in 4 different categories - voice quality obviously, choice of song, stage presence and audience appreciation. We don't know specifically who your girlfriend is, so cannot comment on her singing etc but we had some wonderful singers both male and female. Unfortunatley ballads and older songs generally are not as well received by audiences, so if she sang something in that vein - there's the first hurdle.

Second hurdle = having 3 judges with different tastes who each gave marks out of 5 in four categories meant that we got some very interesting results! Am not sure if that's actually an hurdle but that's why there were categories and marks out of 5 for each, with a final total out of 120.

We can only apologise for the inadequacies of some part of the competition organisation but that's an internal problem that has hopefully been resolved for any competitions we may run in future.

As an aside - we really can't help where people sit! The judging panel never sat in the same place twice and if people come and sit next to us - what are we supoosed to do? We can't really tell them to ****** off, can we???

We are sorry if you felt put out in any way but as the saying goes "You can't please all of the people all of the time" and we do try our best to please where we can. Introduce yourself if you're ever in again pet and we'll have a chat. :Banane35: John & Toni
By the way, it was the final tonight and Dave Hill won with possibly the best karaoke performance of The Devil Went Down to Georgia EVER!
