Christmas Do (Thread One) 2006

Yeah, I know.....its too early to start this (especially as the November meet as not yet been put on). However, in the possible/probable absence of our usual venue, as anyone got any ideas - especially if we may have to book ahead.

1) Christmas day is on a monday, so what is likely to be the optimum night/afternoon, i.e. when the most people can turn up?

2) Location - ?????????

3) Facilities - My ideal place is a good selection of real ale and no juke box or karioke, although live music would be fine... No screaming, puking kids, though.

I suppose we can come up some ideas and then maybe start a voting thread.

PS...and yeah, I know, I'm down here most of the time so can't do any legwork in sorting stuff out up there, so apologies.

I will be visiting Pendy and David in Ossy during that week. Almost any time should work. I'll vote for real ale or decent cider!

As yet nothing is booked. Due to the fact that the pub will be very busy (new pub + xmas), i have reserved the function room for the meeting. There won't be a charge for this, because it's up to me to take the booking for the night. lol

Just out of interest, is the function room here on ground floor level or up/down? Apart from me possibly being on crutches come Christmas, there are one or two others on here for whom going up and down steps is a challenge.

I think that the "down stairs" at the end of the night will probably be a challange for more people than the "up stairs" was at the beginning of the night :D

Hi Mez, you back .. bring your piccies on Sat x

Mr T .. he just being a 'big girl's blouse' .. like all the fellas :D

New Year do .. sounds good to me too.

AccyJay 23-11-2006 19:02

Re: Christmas Do (Thread One)

I've been assured that we will be open on time (15th Dec 06). I've just discovered that the function room won't be having any sound fed to it from the main bar. However, there will be two separate areas of the pub that can be used instead. Mick & Mez can decide which is best when they visit the site after opening. We've also booked an artist for the evening. The artist is called Paul Byrom, i've never seen him, but he comes highly recommended. If he's cr@p, heads will roll. lol

I'll need to know nearer to the time about food requirements. Let's get this Nov meeting (Sat 25th Nov 06 - Boars Head then onto Royal Hotel) out of the way first though.

:D

If everyone promises to leave their filthy ...kin' habit at home for the night, then I'll consider wearing decent clothes.
There is nothing worse than having decent clobber reeking of stale baccy & second hand smoke after a night out.

Oh dear Lettie .. he dropped me in that one didn't he? however, to get out of it, you must admit that after seeing her at the last meet Lettie is only 'big' in the correct places :D

Ok, your second point .. smoking again .. Can understand yer point, but don't worry, next year will be more enjoyable for you so will expect the full clobber then. Get out the patio heater AccyJay!! In return, expect to see some of the men's aftershaves discarded .. as allergic to some of these .. ok .. Timmy Taylors Landlord, always went down well at the Stop & Rest. Theres also Brydge Bitter. Also can't remember the name of the beer but its from a brewery in Blackburn called 3 Bee's. Not that I like bitter anyway, but from what I've sold whilst working in pubs.

I thought S & N had flogged off all their pubs to an outfit called Spirit Group? Anyway, if you can't have thwaites, try and get another guest beer in..What about Abbot? I see quite a few ex-S&N pubs knocking out that stuff.
